First big hit

Taylor Swift’s first big hit was “Tim McGraw” back in 2006. Let me just say that this was an awesome move on her part – naming her first song after the talented Tim McGraw. She then was able to inherit most of his country following of fans which jumpstarted her career in a big way. Tim fans then became Taylor fans, as people everywhere heard her song on the radio and were in wonderment of who was this new young artist singing Tim’s name in her lyrics.

Taylor Swift, at a mere 21 is extremely talented in her vocals, as well as her musical ability on the guitar and piano. I, myself have just recently purchased the piano book with the music from her self-titled debut album with all eleven songs. Piano playing since I was seven, I have about 15 years of piano experience behind me, so I figured picking up Taylor’s piano book would be a piece of cake and that I’d master it in no time.

Taylor’s Easy Piano Songbook

Well, I am almost there. I have had the book for about two weeks now and every day the melody becomes more prominent when I play. Taylor’s music is not the easiest.. Lucky for me I know all the words which I feel makes learning to play her songs on the piano much easier as I can hear how the melody goes in my head. This is a big help for helping me stay on track and makes it easier to fix any notes that don’t sound quite right. I’ll just sing out the words and the piano will flow naturally along.

Taylor’s book is labeled EZ Piano but it isn’t too easy. I’m at the point now where I can play all her songs from this book and they are flowing nicely. I would upload a video of me playing a song from the book but my little Dell here cannot handle uploads at this time, unfortunately.

My top favorite songs from this album are her debut song Tim McGraw, Picture to Burn, Teardrops on My Guitar and Should’ve Said No. The remaining songs are titled A Place in This World, Cold as You, The Outside, Tied Together with a Smile, Stay Beautiful, Mary’s Song (Oh My My My) and Our Song. The difficulty level for the songs in this book is not too high for most of the songs, however, my favorites (the first four songs mentioned) are a bit more difficult, especially Picture to Burn and Should’ve Said No, as they have a moderately fast pace. Furthermore, all of the songs are instructed to be played moderately fast and with a strong beat.

Final Thoughts

I love Taylor Swift’s music. She is just precious. My walls are lined with two Taylor calendars I got for Christmas and of course her three cds are in my collection. I think that is it though for the Taylor paraphernalia. As for seeing her live in concert, that is definitely on my to-do list, or my bucket-list rather, as the ticket prices are a bit steep! I know she would be so vibrant to see in person though and I can’t wait till that day comes.

Stay Tuned!

I predict I’ll be getting tired of this book shortly and will go out and purchase the piano music for her second and third cds – Fearless and most recent Speak Now. Stay tuned for future hubs on other topics of relevance to Taylor Swift such as my purchase of the piano books for the second and third cds. Thanks for reading!
