Television - Doctor Who – The Sixth Doctor and his companions
Over the years Doctor Who has become one of the most successful British Television shows in history. Due to the show ongoing for over fifty years many actors have portrayed the Doctor and in this article I am going to explore the character of the Sixth doctor.
Colin Baker was the sixth actor to portray the doctor and did so between 1984 and 1986. He acted as the doctor for two series and acted in 27 episodes.
Colin Baker was born in 1943 and is still a big Doctor Who fan today. He is known for acting in several other television shows including The Knock (1997) and Doctors (2001 - 2011).
The Sixth Doctor
The sixth doctor was bright and colourful and incredibly eloquent. This doctor loved to quote famous artists and writers, and always used quotations to get his point across. His personality was bright and powerful and often evolved into strong passion. He had little regard for little things which often disgusted his companions. He was a more cool and calm doctor, but was capable of being incredibly violent; in fact capable of planning murder. He enjoyed travelling with a single companion, much like the fourth doctor.
Companions
The sixth doctor was seen to travel along side only two companions.
Peri Brown (Nicola Bryant) – 2 Appearances
Peri, an Earth human from the modern day era travels with both the Fifth Doctor and the Sixth Doctor. She consistently dresses in very lavish revealing outfits which brings a new audience to the show. She is clever and very bright spirited and just wants to see and explore the universe. She is a lot closer to the sixth doctor then the fifth and there is a strong undercurrent of attraction between the two. Some say she travelled with the doctor for a few months, other say for a few years but they had an incredibly eventful time together.
Melanine Bush (Bonnie Langford) – 4 Appearances
Melanine Bush, a human companion from the twentieth century was a very successful computer programmer. She meets up with the sixth Doctor and travels with him even through his regeneration. Melanie is the only companion of the doctor (besides his Granddaughter) to not have met the Doctor on Screen. Due to a time line explanation the Doctor meets this companion before the Start of their first episode together, but is shown to have met her in the future at a Trial of a Time Lord. Melanine is very cheerful, perky and has an eidetic memory. She is warm, and has a great sense of humour. She is very concerned about health, and is a strict vegetarian and often tells the Doctor he needs to exercise more.
