Television: Spring and Summer 2013 Premieres

Updated on March 4, 2013

The Bates Motel premieres Monday, March 18th at 10pm on A&E Network. The prequel to the Alfred Hitchcock horror film classic, Psycho, this series will be set in modern times and give the viewer a chance to see Norma Bates and her teenage son, Norman purchase The Bates Motel. This will take place before his crimes. The clips that I have viewed look amazing. It has a creepy vibe that will give you the feeling of Halloween in March. The Bates Motel is not to be missed if you are a fan of crime shows like Criminal Minds and Southland. If you like American Horror Story this will be perfect for you!

Hell's Kitchen returns to FOX on Tuesday, March 12th at 8PM. Gordon Ramsey comes back for an 11th season to change the lives of up and coming chefs. Which clefs will get his praise and which ones will get his wrath. How many times will he be bleeped by the censor? Those are the top questions every year. The show will feature sour chef Andi van Welligan back from last season in the red kitchen, but in the blue kitchen sous chef James Avery takes over for sous chef Scott Leibfried according to the shows official site. The maƮtre d Jean-Philippe will return as well.

The Secret Life of the American Teenager will return Monday, March 18th for the shows' 5th and finale season. The ABC Family teen drama will begin the premiere day with a marathon of the past season starting at 11AM. The 8PM premiere is being called "Together Forever". The big question for long time viewers is whether Amy and Ricky will marry and find their happy ever after.

Oprah: Where Are They Now will start the second season of big interviews on OWN (Oprah Winfrey Network) Tuesday, March 19th at 10PM. The past guests of the Oprah Winfrey Show will catch up with the queen of talk and share what they have been up to since there appearance on her show. The expected guests listed on the shows' website include: Omarosa Manigault, "Octomom" Nadya Suleman, Heidi Fleiss and Columbine families.

19 Kids and Counting returns to TLC March 12th at 9pm. The Duggar family will spend time overseas during a three part special called "The Duggars Do Asia". Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar along with their 19 children, 1 spouse, 2 grandchildren and maybe Grandma Duggar will visit China and Japan to share their experiences. This wholesome family will make you smile!

The E! reality series Married To Jonas returns with the second season April 21st at 10:30pm. The celebrity couple brings a touch of class to the world of reality shows. The down to earth Kevin and Danielle (Deleasa) Jonas are the complete opposites of every Kardashian show.

The TBS sophomore comedy Men At Work returns April 4th at 10pm. The comedy about 4 single guys working at Full Steam Magazine will bring more laughs. This show is a great for young couples to watch together. Girls can get an idea about what men really think and guys can laugh at themselves.

Masterchef returns to FOX on Monday, April 22 at 8pm. The amateur chefs will once again deal with chefs Gordon Ramsey, Joe Bastianich and Graham Elliott in the hopes of winning the title of Masterchef. The contestants will face challenges as teams and on their own to decide who stays or goes. With every week the competition gets more intense. If you consider yourself a foodie or like the other shows starring Gordon Ramsey you can't miss this one.

The CBS crime drama Unforgettable starring Poppy Montgomery returns for a sophomore season Sunday, July 28th at 9pm. Some people may be wondering when this show previously aired. The show's freshman season aired from September 2011 to May 2012. The show was cancelled by CBS, but the network changed their minds some months later and decided to renew the show for this summer. Due to the long break between seasons some of the original cast is not expected to return. The series is unique due to the lead character's ability to remember everything she sees. This and the great cast make the show a must see. If you like the CSI franchise or past hits like Without A Trace (also starring Poppy Montgomery) or Cold Case this might be a good one for you.

There are some great returning cable summer series but, the dates have not been given for the shows. I will keep an eye out and post them when available.

Make sure to look out for:

  • Perception on TNT Network
  • Royal Pains on USA Network
  • Necessary Roughness on USA Network
