All My Favorite Love Songs
My Best 3 Love Songs
Music has the potential to move us to tears, fire us up into a frenzy and become a soundtrack to our lives. I wanted to share with you my all time best love songs but it occurred to me that this would be my personal favourite love songs list not necessarily yours. I then realised that the love songs that have defined me have actually changed over the years, the songs that were relevant at the time soon became just another song I liked and it's place in my heart was filled by a new love song.
It is for this reason and a little bit of self indulgence that I am going to share with you my favourite 3 love songs from each decade over the last 30 years. I would really like you to share yours in the comments box below so we can see the diversity, power and personal taste of music.
I should point out that the decade I fell in love with these songs won't necessarily coincide with when they were released, music or rather good music transcends time.
Farewell my Summer Love
Music from the 80s
During the 80's I was in my teenage years, I didn't have a musical taste as such I just liked music. I remember plenty of songs that at the time seemed to be speaking to me, the lyrics were describing how I was feeling.
I have sifted through about 20 songs to arrive at my favourite 3 and here they are:
- Farewell my Summer Love - Michael Jackson
- Saturday Night at the Movies - The Drifters
- Victims - Culture Club
As you can tell from the titles I was going through changes, maturing, finding girls more interesting than my friends, getting rejected and seeking acceptance. This music comforted me and inspired me to carry on.
Crazy For You
Music from the 90s
I started working during the 90s, finding my way in life and learning some harsh lessons. Relationships from memory always seemed rocky but the pursuit of the dream kept me going.
My musical tastes became very specific and I literally had a song to match every mood. The love songs that kept me going during this roller coaster decade are:
- Crazy For You - Madonna
- I Don't Want To Miss A Thing - Aerosmith
- Human Nature - Michael Jackson
Clearly I was in love to the point of addiction and these songs helped me make sense of the powerful emotions I had to live with.
The Best Love Song Ever
Music from 2000-2010
If you have read some of my other hubs then you will know that this period of life took some very dramatic turns, my psyche was pushed and tested to the limit. I don't remember music comforting me as such rather it enabled me to escape from the challenges of life.
I have really struggled with this decade but have eventually decided on these 3 love songs as my favourites:
- Kissing You - Desiree
- Wonderful Tonight - Eric Clapton
- You Are Not Alone - Michael Jackson
It is fair too say that today in 2011 Kissing You is my all time favorite love song from possibly the best ever love story told, it summarises what love is, it's wonderful, it's terrible, it's distant and it's worth dying for.
Love Songs
So there we have it, the sound track to my life, I hope you enjoyed it.
I don't know what I have learned from this exercise other than I am a Michael Jackson fan. When asked I always volunteer Elvis and The Beatles as favorites but they didn't get on the list which surprises me.
If you have a spare few minutes why not let me know in the comments box what your best 3 love songs are, go on it's a bit of distraction from life.
