The Biggest Loser Season 13 Preview
The Season of No Excuses
Season 13 of NBC's The Biggest Loser is set to premiere on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, at 8 p.m. Eastern. This season is being dubbed as the season for no excuses. Allison is back for hosting duties, and Bob Harper and Dolvett Quince are the main coaches. Anna Kournikova only lasted one season and will not return as a coach for Season 13. This is Dolvett's second season.
Based on the debut video over at NBC, two family members will show up for Season 13 to compete. However, there is a big twist that the contestants were not aware of. When they show up, they find out that one of the family members will go to Bob's team. The other family will go to Dolvett's team. In other words, the family members are technically competing against each other to start the season.
While this twist seems like another in a long line of ratings gimmicks, I actually like this one. I am very torn about this show at times, especially when family members are on the same team. They are never going to vote against each other due to the obvious bias unless one is ready to go home. With this twist, at least that bias won't exist until there is a merge of the separate teams.
Anna Kournikova was allegedly hard to work with as a coach. Before her debut, I had postulated that the Russian style of motivation - which is more harsh than the encouragement typically used to motivate Americans - would be a question mark. Anna apparently still has that Russian quality, which just doesn't work well in America. Ratings were also down last year, but apparently Dolvett was impressive enough to keep around for Season 13. We will now see if the show can bounce back after a lackluster ratings effort last season.
