Based on the graphic novel written by Alan Moore.

Britain has become a fascist state ruled by a totalitarian government. A young woman (Natalie Portman) joins a masked vigilante known as "V" (Hugo Weaving) in his efforts to bring down the government.

Also starring Stephen Rhea, Stephen Fry and John Hurt.

Evey: Who are you?
V: Voilà! In view, a humble vaudevillian veteran cast vicariously as both victim and villain by the vicissitudes of Fate. This visage, no mere veneer of vanity, is a vestige of the vox populi, now vacant, vanished. However, this valorous visitation of a by-gone vexation, stands vivified and has vowed to vanquish these venal and virulent vermin vanguarding vice and vouchsafing the violently vicious and voracious violation of volition. The only verdict is vengeance; a vendetta, held as a votive, not in vain, for the value and veracity of such shall one day vindicate the vigilant and the virtuous. Verily, this vichyssoise of verbiage veers most verbose, so let me simply add that it's my very good honor to meet you and you may call me V.

First of all....I loved the fact that you started the hub off with Blade Runner. Secondly this is truly a very impressive hub....from 2015 to 802071 our future looks interesting to say the least. I have seen all of this movies with the exception of four of them....Zardoz, Prometheus, Gattaca and Battlefield Earth(I have seen about 3/4 of it). I actually own 24 if these movies on DVD....and you say I am not a sci-fi fan....lol.

I think the only movie that I did not like at all was Repo Men ...I found that one to be very depressing and way too much gore. But I was glad to see two Kurt Wimmer movies, 12 Monkeys, Blade Runner, The Terminator, The Matrix, Rollerball, Fifth Element and Children of Men...get shout outs as they are some of my favorite science fiction movies.

I can easily say that .....in my humble opinion this is your best hub ever....Voted up and across the board....you are the man.

Bruce, Sunshine thanks for commenting on my 'movies set in the future' hub, very much appreciated.

Bruce, thanks for the kind words, you're a good friend. It took me ages to finish this hub, maybe I should have just picked 20 important films instead of 50 favourites.

With 7000 words of text its my biggest hub so far. It was like writing 50 hubs. I can't wait to get back to good old movie poster hubs. :)

Ironically I couldn't include two of the most important sci-fi films, only films with an official "future date" were included. 2001 A Space Odyssey is now set in the past and Star Wars happened 'a long time ago'.

I wanted to include this years biggie The Hunger Games but the events in that have no specific year, its just set in the future.

Sunshine, I've included so many scifi films you were bound to have seen some of them, glad you liked the hub and thanks for posting.

Thanks hinton, appreciate the comment and kind words. I would have liked to include Escape from New York but like you say it's future date - 1997 - has passed.

What a fantastic idea, arranging scifi movies by their years. Sounds like a lot of work went into this one. For my money, the most likely to happen on or before its story date is "V for Vendetta". But it's really far-fetched-- an unarmed populace swarming into battalions of armed security guards and it's not a blood-bath? Snort!

Voted up, interesting, awesome and shared.

KTCat94 4 years ago

Very cool Hub on all the sci-fi movies! I found a few more I need to watch...I've only seen about five of the movies on this list! It's really interesting how everyone decided to create their storyline in a different period in the future...I wonder how the "predicted" technology in The Time Machine matches up with the "predicted" technology in more current futuristic movies...Is it more advanced than the technology in, say, The Fifth Element? It's interesting to see everyone's perception of the future and how far along they think we will be technologically. :)

UnnamedHarald, KTCat94, Mhatter99, thanks for commenting on my sci-fi movie timeline, very much appreciated.

UnnamedHarald, it is interesting to see which future event is likely to happen, manned trips to Mars will definitely happen. Robot servants are very likely too though they'd have to be self-aware to turn against us unless its merely a malfunction. Ruled by apes? Naah. A virus decimating the population? Sadly yes could happen if we're not careful.

KTCat94, "predicted technology" in Star Trek of the 1960s such as the Transporter, hasn't really happened much in other futuristic movies, the alien Psychlos in Battlefield Earth use a transporter device. There are flying cars in Blade Runner but none in I Robot which takes place a few years later.

Mhatter99, thanks for taking this long trip, always appreciated.

Thanks all for posting.
