The "Heavy Metal" Robot Band

Updated on January 13, 2013

Have you ever seen the REAL STEEL? It’s a science fiction sports drama movie by DreamWorks Studios in 2011, starring Hugh Jackman, Dakota Goyo, Evangeline Lilly, Anthony Mackie, and Kevin Durand. From the movie we can see the human boxers have been replaced by robot boxers, it happened in 2020. The robots battle being controlled by someone. Most of parts of the movie used animatronics robots. Kind of the robots built for the film. The robots movement used to depict the brawling was captured by computer and animatronics. The human has roles to control the robot to fight with each others. All the robots have hydraulic neck controls. Even the executive producer of the movie said that basically if they're not walking or fighting, that's a real robot. The robot was designed to be more humanizing to attract the audience's sympathy. From the Real Steel movie, I got an inspiration to write this hub.

That’s why I post this hub special to all of you. It’s like the Real Steel in Music Version. Curious…..Please continue to read!

Yesterday I found a most peculiar video on YouTube. The clip of video where a robot band known as "Compressorhead" can perform Motorhead‘s classic tracks, “Ace of Spades” better than many garage bands. They are a trio of robotic contraptions. The players consists of guitarist (namely Fingers), bassist (namely Bones), and drummer (namely Stickboy, he has an extra set of arms).

Up close and personal with Fingers, Bones and Stickboy

The German mechanical trio robots consists of Fingers, Bones, and Stickboy.

  • Fingers is guitarist. He has 78 purpose built fingers. It's enough to play the whole fret board and pluck. Even we can't see his string manipulators with the head that just won't quit. His favorite guitarist is Yngwie Malmsteen, Angus Young, and Dave Murray.
  • Bones is a bassist. He is the highest precision bass player in Compressorhead. Trusted information said that he is the youngest member of the band, since 2012. So far his playing was influenced by Commerford, Trujillo, and Chancellor. And his favorite bassist is Mingus. The last member of this band is
  • Stickboy is a drummer of Compressorhead and the oldest. Stickboy has four arms, two legs, one head without no brain and pounds on a 14-piece Pearl kit with double kick. His favorite drummer is Martin Lopez, Danny Carey, and Mike Portnoy. There's no metal drummer like Stickboy in the world for the best performance. I heard that he has already made his Big Day Out debut in 2008.

It said that "Compressorhead" is the world's heaviest metal band. They can play Ace of Spade (motorhead), No Means No (Bad), Banana Spits (Theme Tune), Blitzkrieg Bop (Ramones), Bullet in the Head (RATM), I Love Rock & Roll (Joan Jett), Ironman (Black Sabbath), Rock’n Roll (Led Zepplin), Ruble (Link Wray), Should I Stay or Go (Clas), Teen Spirit (Nirvana), TNT (AC/DC), Unsung (Helmut), Whole Lotta Love (Led Zepplin), Wilmas Rainbow (Helmut).

I hear that Compressorhead scheduled to play with The Killers, Vampire Weekend, Childish Gambino , Band of Horses, Alabama Shakes, Childish Gambino, and Red Hot Chili Peppers at Australia’s Big Day Out festival this summer. Based on the official website of "Compressorhead", all-robot band from Germany will perform in Sydney (January 18), Gold Coast (January 20), Adilaide (January 25), Melbourne (January 26), and Perth (January 28). “Ace of Spades” clip video was taken during the “band practice” sessions. Sorry if you don't like rock music. But, I hope this hub still entertain you.
