Three Stooges movie aims for 2012 release
Casting is complete and filming has begun in Atlanta for a new Three Stooges movie.
The original goal was to cast Jim Carrey as Curly, Sean Penn as Larry and Benecio del Toro as Moe. That plan fell through and the new cast features Will Sasso (from MADTV) as Curly, Sean Hayes (from Will & Grace) as Curly and Chris Diamantopoulos (from 24) as Moe. Personally I like the new cast better.
The rumor has it that the story will start with the boys being dropped at a doorstep as babies and follows them into adulthood. The Farrelly brothers are well known for their success on producing good comedies and they have put extra effort into this movie. They have spent several years coming up with a script and cast with the desire of keeping it as close to the original Three Stooges as possible.
Other cast members include Jane Lynch (Fame & 2 1/2 Men), Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm), Sofia Vergara, Stephen Collins (7th Heaven), Craig Bierko and Kirby Heyborne.
Some photos have emerged from the filming, I have included two here. One that shows Sean Hayes and the other shows Moe and Larry. As you can see, they seem to look Pretty close to the original Stooges.
This will be the first time the Three Stooges will be in a movie since the 1960's and it will also be the first time that Moe Howard and Larry Fine will not be part of the Stooges. It will be interesting to see how this film turns out, but based on what I have read and what little I have seen, I think it should be as good as we can get without the original Stooges in the movie.
