Top 3 European Music Festivals 2011

Updated on July 14, 2011

Music is a part of us; we listen to it everyday; we sing it, we write, we feel it; it's no surprise that year after year, the one thing that many people say they couldn't live without, is music. Music can trancend time - music can create time. Pop, country, rap, punk, folk, celtic, alternative, rock, funk, blues, electronic, techno... the list of types of different music far exceeds that differences between you and I.

With music being so popular in our daily lives, it's so surprise that one of the most popular forms of entertainment, as well as some of the highest grossing, are music festivals. Music festivals are a much more visceral experience, with the music being more raw, and the fans more true. It's awesome.

One of the leaders in music festivals is Europe. European music festivals in 2010 were some of the best in the world, and the best of all time. The lineup for music festivals 2011 in Europe looks to be no different; music festivals in Europe 2011 will be from a variety and genres and artists, so picking the perfect venue shouldn't be difficult.

Oxegen Music Festival 2011

Probably the most well known out of all music festivals in Europe, the Oxegen music festival is held in Ireland.  Sponsered by Heineken (you know that's going to be a good time) and endorsed by many of the world's top artists, Oxegen is one, well, really good time.

As far as European music festivals in 2011 go, Oxegen is one of the biggest and longest.  Recently expanded to four days long, the average attendance to the festival is 90 000 a day, which, if you don't know, for music fesitivals, and furthermore music festivals in Europe, is a really big number.  And bigger, sometimes, does mean better.

But what about the Oxegen music festival 2011?  Is it one of the best lineups for music festivals in 2011?  Is it one of the top European 2011 music festival?

Yes it is.

Oxegen 2011 Lineup:

  • Foo Fighters
  • Blink 182
  • Arctic Monkeys
  • The Black Eyes Peas
  • Paolo Nutini

Wireless Festival 2011

One of the best European music festivals in 2011 - and every year for that matter - is also one of the top UK music festivals. Why? Because it's set in the heart of London, with the setting of Hyde park, giving the festival a modern and big-city feel. It's a different kind of intimacy than, say, Oxegen music festival.

Over multiple days, and multiple stages, you'll get to experience the best in todays pop and rock acts. This is a 2011 music festival that is more gears to radio, and mainstream hits, making it a very popular festival for everyone to attend. Evidence of popularity: the line up of the 2010 Wireless UK music festival included acts like Daft Punk and Deadmau5.

But what about this 2011 UK music festival? What does it have in store?

If 2010 is any indication of how 2011 will be (acts like 30 seconds to mars, and Jay-Z) then this year should be good, if not better.  So far the legendary band Pulp have decided to join in on the fun.

Hurricane Festival 2011

You wouldn't know it but Germany, well, yes, they know how to party. Proof of this? Just check out their annual European music festival, the Hurricane festival. They have, in years passed, featured big named bands like The Strokes, Phoenix, and Vampire Weekend.

Located in a beautifully rural region of Germany (flat-lands with forests), the Hurricane Festival is both chill and exciting; both wild and relaxing. In other words: it's a good time.

2011 Hurrican Music Festival Line-Up:

  • Foo Fighters
  • Blink 182
  • Arcade Fire
  • The Chemical Brothers
  • Arctic Monkeys
  • The Sounds
  • The Hives
  • Friendly Fires
  • Egotronic
