Touch Cast and Characters

Touch is set to air on Fox on Monday the 19th of March. Surprisingly, this much anticipated TV show has a relatively small cast. However, every week there will be a number of new characters. Most of these new characters are likely to have single episode appearances. This is mainly because the main character, Jake Bohm, suffers from Mutism and is a kind of air traffic controller, directing his Dad, Martin Bohm, to make the required connections.

David Mazouz plays the silent character of Jake Bohm.

Jake is a 10 year old boy and does not like to be touched. Jake has never spoken in his whole life but has an affinity with numbers, including Fibonnacci patterns, which allow him to see the connections that normal people are unable to determine.

Jake is able to make sense of the chaos of the Universe and help set it back on it's rightful path. However, he is only a young boy. He needs to be able to communicate with his father, Martin Bohm, in order to do his job.

Jake loves mobile phones and uses them as a way to communicate with his father. Jake seems aware of his role in life but others are slower to pick up on it.

David Mazouz is still young and has made a few appearances in shows like Criminal Minds and Private Practice.

Kiefer Sutherland plays Martin Bohm.

Martin was a highly paid journalist until his wife died in the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers, on September 11th. Since then, Martin has had sole responsibility for the care of their son, Jake. Due to Jake's condition, Martin struggles to hold down a permanent job and has had over a dozen career changes since his wife died.

Martin Bohm is currently a baggage handler at the airport. Although it pays less than he'd like it fits in with Jake's schedule.

Martin comes to realize that Jake is trying to communicate with him through the use of numbers and patterns. After 10 years of silence, Martin is ecstatic that Jake is communicating in any way he can. If it's through numbers then so be it. Martin feels it is his job to help Jake put the Universe to rights.

Not only does Kiefer Sutherland star in Touch but he is also an Executive Director of the show. Kiefer Sutherland has had a very successful career in TV and film. His most renowned TV character being Jack Bauer in 24. Some of my favorite Kiefer Sutherland movies include Mirrors, Phone Booth, Flatliners, Young Guns and Stand By Me.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Clea Hopkins.

When Jake keeps leaving school to climb a cell tower, the police have no choice but to call social services, to determine the safety and well being of Jake Bohm. Clea Hopkins is the social worker assigned to Jake's case.

Clea is judgemental and has already made her mind up about Martin's abilities, or lack of, in taking care of his son. She believes that Martin is clutching at straws when he thinks Jake is trying to communicate with him through numbers. Clea decides it would be best to put Jake into an institution. Martin doesn't agree but is forced to try it as a temporary measure to see if it has a positive effect on Jake.

While at the institution, Clea bonds with Jake and realizes he is trying to communicate with the outside world through numbers. Jake quickly converts her into a believer.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw is a British actress and started acting from a young age. She received a scholarship to attend RADA and has made good use of her training. She has had most success in spy type TV shows such as Spooks and Undercovers.

Danny Glover plays Professor Arthur Teller of the Teller Institute.

Martin Bohm finds Arthur on the internet when he decides to investigate Jake's condition further. Arthur's theories differ, from other Doctors, and he believes Jake is special. He explains Jake's abilities to Martin and that it is Martin's responsibility to help Jake.

Arthur is excitable and eccentric and has seen this condition before. He wants to help.

Danny Glover has had an acting career that has spanned over 30 years. He has appeared in movies such as The Color Purple, Lethal Weapon 1, 2, 3 and 4 and Dreamgirls. However, Danny Glover has also been in a number of TV shows including Brothers & Sisters and ER.

The 4 actors mentioned in more detail above are the core cast of Touch.

Each week there will be some other cast members brought in for single episodes, or just a few episodes, such as Titus Welliver who played Randall Meade. Randall was the man that won the lottery and was also the fireman who tried to save Martin's wife.

I think with such a small core of central characters, the Touch cast will develop stronger relationships, as the show goes on.
