What does your Avatar say about you?

Updated on June 2, 2012

In the past, we've seen palm readers and psychics - in the future (no need to be shy about it!) we will see Avatar readers.

The internet has taken over our lives - some would say IT IS OUR LIVES! and as a psychic myself I see the need to become more engaged with reading into online Avatars.

Firstly, what is an Avatar?

Simply put, an Avatar is the little square box or area in which you present your self or profile to the world, sometimes it refers to your profile - so let's just say it is all of these and more!

Your picture, the image of what presents you, your pic, your self-portrait, your representation etc...

But call it what you will - I have seen a few Avatar's now and I think I can safely say some patterns are developing through my encounters and psychological and personality traits seem to be coming through as we pick up on internet Avatars.

Let's have a go at analysing some of the Avatar patterns I've seen - this is only scratching the surface. Please add your ideas in the comments.

The Animal Avatar

This is the Avatar for the person who wants to stay anonymous OR who thinks they are ugly OR who has so much money it would be indiscrete to reveal a true face. The other side of this Avatar is that the person sees him or herself as somewhat an outsider - generally misunderstood by the madding crowd but, like all of us, in need of some affection.

On the other hand, some of these animal Avatars are symbolic and represent deeply felt spiritual positions - lions for example may show the spirit of the Lion of Judea or the Lion of C.S Lewis and represent strength, endurance and even delusions of godliness.

Funny animals represent eccentricity - dog's wearing sunglasses, horses with potplants on their head, cats picking their noses etc...But where are the deep sea krill might you ask? Well as you can see it is usually cuddly or traditionally loved animals that represent Avatars not the obscure ones that live in the deep recesses of the ocean.

But there are of course, yes, there are a few deadly poisonous spiders and the holders of these are great at being honest about how BAD they can be! Good luck to them. At least they don't hide behind "blaming others!"

As a rule, the animal Avatars project the acceptance that humans and animals are not that different - it used to be called anthropomorphism.

The Keep Your Distance Avatar

These Avatars show a photo of the real person but AT A DISTANCE. You can see it's a person but the shot is taken from such a distance that the features are hardly available - the Avatar holder is usually very beautiful and has had their fair share of uninvited attention. KEEP YOUR DISTANCE these holders are trying to tell you OR let me be the one who makes the moves. Hence no close up. You could be just (another!) predator lieing in wait wasting my time.

These Avatars are often used by good lookers who are sick of the uninvited attention that keeps coming up over their looks. Why can't you like me just for me, these holders lament.

I'm a MODEL Avatar - you know what I mean.

Yeh right!

On the other hand, the holder of the MODEL Avatars want attention. Usually a person who perceives him or herself to be the ugly duckling but determined not to take the consequences of this. The owners of these avatars feel strongly that the world is far too visually orientated and the only people who get on seem to be the GOOD LOOKING ones but of course these holders are wrong. It is not only looks that makes you a wonderful human being or necessarily gives you the most advantage!

You can be very attractive for what is in your soul and start TESTING this in the real world - you'll be surprised at what you can get just for thinking differently about yourself!

Sometimes, these Avatars are REAL (i.e. not just some one hiding behind LOOKS and a persona) and the holders are typically BIG FLIRTS. Usually young, out there and looking for some action. Heh, look at me, flirt with me and let's have some fun and fun is what they usually get because....well...these Avatar holders are very liberated and generally see the internet as another avenue for their fun orientated lives.

Billboard Avatar

These Avatars usually contain a message or quote - the owner might even have a business keen to get the message out. Holders are keen to send a message out to OR more importantly, repeat the message to themselves at any opportunity. WE TEACH WHAT WE MOST NEED TO LEARN. Each time this holder logs into to his or her account it is like a form of self education! Be Yourself, Everyone Else is Taken, No regrets, Make Love Not War, Legalize It, Jesus Loves You etc...

Cartoon Avatar

With these Avatars the owner has rendered him or herself as a cartoon figure. We all love cartoons and some of our fav characters say a lot about us. This avatar holder is often keen to make others lighten up and see the lighter side of life as this has been their experience anyway. As a kid, he or she probably spent lots of time watching The Simpsons or the Cartoon Channel and the internet is like being in a cartoon network. People in cartoons can say random and funny things like "my butt is itchy" and have fun, say nothing wrong and always seem to be able to solve their problems. Don't take things too seriously have cartoon like spirit and live in contentment.

GIF Avatar

Not always allowed on sites, these avatars MOVE. Some are dancing figures, jumping figures or rolling around to delight us figures. Owners of these avatars want to attract attention through movements - often peculiar and original...and who can blame them? The creative spirit is on display here.
