John Richard Barron & Family
The photo
In the library at Many LA, I came across a document regarding the family I'm researching. The document has the name list to a picture taken of the family of John Richard Barron. It was left by his daughter, Aylean Barron Barnhill. It left me wishing I had the photo that went with it. Years later, I found myself in possession of that exact photo. It was in a batch of photos that my grandmother, Annie Melvie Dean Barron, had left behind.
The photo was taken at the home place of John Richard Barron and his wife, Emma Jane Keen Barron, in the Mitchell/Oak Grove/Converse area of Sabine Parish, Louisiana. The list refers to 1924, but due to ages of babies in the photo, I place the year as 1925. The property is no longer in the family, but there is still a Barron Family Reunion being held the first Saturday in June at the Oak Grove Baptist Church between Converse and Pleasant Hill, Sabine Parish.
Of significance to me is my grandfather, Henry Duncan Barron, pictured holding my aunt Bertha Jane Barron as an infant. One reason I ruled out 1924 as the date of the picture, is Bertha was not born until January of 1925. Her mother died in child birth. If not for the death of Henry's first wife, he would not have later married his second wife, my grandmother. His sister Babe helped raise his children when they were small.
