Drink From A Jar Guy Wine Review: Estimulo Sauvignon Blanc, A Perfect Wine Gift
Estimulo Sauvignon Blanc Vintage 2008, And My Cat Valentine
Argentina can take pride in this great Sauvignon Blanc
Estimulo, that's what this economy needs, and a great drinkable white wine.
Estimulo, pronounced [es-TEE-moo-lo] this Sauvignon Blanc is named from the Spanish word for stimulus! The label describes it as, " A collection of wines from Argentina's foremost wine region whose appearance, aromas, structure and exquisite flavors stimulate the senses and increase one's enjoyment of life."
This is indeed a most stimulating Sauvignon Blanc. I find that immediately out of the bottle, this wine show's off it's most potent notes of minerals and hints of herbs. After a little time opening up, the wine smooths out into a sublime dancer of wonderful grape tones replete with the tiniest inoculation of citrus aroma. The ambient aroma of the wine is even more subtle, the perfect clean and crisp white for those looking for uncomplicated flavor. I found the acidity of this wine to fall on the the juicier side of sharpness. The color is a rich sunny white with legs that run fast along your glass.
I enjoyed this wine with some slices of mozzarella, which positively enhanced the smooth character of the wine, along with some spiced Buffalo ranch chips which the wine contrasted in a refreshing way. I would pair this wine with raw oysters, crab, or any white fish. Sauvignon Blanc's are known as one of the few wines that can pair well with sushi, which I can wholeheartedly agree with. However I would encourage anyone bold enough to try this white with a slow cooked beef roast or pork shoulder, why take the path most oft traveled?
I want to underscore once more that Estimulo Sauvignon Blanc, like all the wines from Bodega Antigal Whinery are aged in stainless steel vats, as opposed to oak. This route of wine-making encourages wines that rest easy and uncomplicated on one's palate. This might just be a great wine gift for someone who has threatened to buy wine in the past, but was afraid of the complexities or wandering nuances of some wines. In this Estimulo you will find a very approachable flavor, a wine that offers some of the textured character of a citrus wine, while still not being too sweet, nor too dry.
The winery is located in the Uco Valley of Tupungato at an elevation of between 2000 and 3000 feet above sea level offering cool nights and very hot days to lend a unique distinction to the varietals of Bodega Antigal Winery. So whether you are looking for a great wine gift for someone you love, or you just need to find a great drinkable wine, look twice at Estimulo Sauvignon Blanc and you'll be glad you found a new white wine to celebrate.
