When you grill whole fish its very important that you don't have your grill to hot. Your grill should be pre-heated and on low heat and you will want to cook your fish slow and easy over the charcoal coals or on a gas grill.
If your grilling a whole fish make three or four deep slashes like in the photo all the way across your fish. Tilapia works great for grilling as do whole rainbow trout. Just be sure to start your grill well in advance of when you will need it so you can cook the perfect whole fish.
It doesn't matter if your grilling tilapia or rainbow trout the below delicious recipe will work for either fish and your whole fish will be so delicious and tasty. As the whole fish is cooking you will want to baste your fish with Vietnamese Fish Sauce by using a small amount in a small bowl and paint it on the fish with a pastry brush. Cook your whole fish on one side and then turn , baste with the fish sauce and grill on the other side. Your whole fish is done when it flakes easily with a fork.
Serve your whole fish with thinly sliced tomatoes and cucumbers along with ranch dressing. Garnish your fish with freshly chopped lemon grass or parsley and lots of lemon slices or wedges. Serve each whole fish you cook on a colorful fish platter. Remember that whole tilapia or whole rainbow trout will work perfect for grilled whole fish.
Dipping Sauce For Your Whole Grilled Fish.
Here's a delicious simple and easy dipping sauce to serve in small bowls with your grilled whole fish.
1. 4 Tablespoons Sweetened Chili Sauce.
2. 1 Tablespoon Fine Minced Ginger.
3. 1 Tablespoon Fine Minced Fresh Garlic.
4. 1 Teaspoon Ground Cayenne Pepper.
5. 2 Teaspoons Vietnamese Fish Sauce.
6. 1 Tablespoon Lime Juice.
7. 1 Teaspoon Creamy Peanut Butter.
Mix all of the above in a blender until smooth and then serve in small bowls along with the whole grilled fish. It is delightfully delicious sauce that is so tasty on grilled whole fish.
Other whole fish you should try grilled whole are Red Snapper , Whole Flounder , and Salmon. All three make wonderful whole grilled fish and the above dipping sauce for whole fish is delicious on these fish also.
Also at some point and time try grilling thin slices of lemon and serve the grilled lemon slices on your whole grilled fish.
