How to Buy Salmon for Your Meal
There are a couple things you should know. It is not as easy as you might think. Really!
There is wild or farmed salmon, there is organic or regular, then, there is Atlantic or Pacific. According to many, wild salmon has a juicy texture and sweeter taste than farmed, which are, well, farmed in a large lake, fed like chickens, then harvested. Wild salmon swim with the current, free.As to organic fish, seems so stupid. Aren't all fish organic? Well, the USDA has not yet decided and to complicate the issue, salmon labeled organic can have coloring agents, pesticides and antibiotics also. Unlike organic chickens, which are raised on the range with natural feed. Lastly, which ocean produces the better salmon?
Well, all Atlantic salmon are farmed fish and therefore, inactive. They are an entirely different species with different habitats. They are fatter and taste creamy mild. Pacific salmon are the real deal. They are ocean fish when they are young and it depends when and where they were caught, which is a problem for a consumer. They are a meaty, delicious fish, filled with nutrients good for humans. When cooked correctly, you cannot never get enough.
Try both and you decide.
