How to make perfect infant food at home?
Fresh, locally grown, organic food is best
Making Your Own Infant Food
When our two babies were born a year apart, we could not afford commercial baby food. I've also always been kind of a 'health nut' and preferred fresh food to pre-prepared.
The first thing to do is invest in the highest quality blender you can afford. A hand blender is easiest as you make small batches and is easier to clean.
Most meals I prepared for my husband and myself were good for the babies. I no longer eat beef, but we did back then and when I'd make roast beef, potatoes and carrots, I'd simply put a bit of each into the blender and puree until smooth. Roasted turkey and sweet potatoes; baked chicken and acron or butternut squash, tuna noodle cassarole and many other meals are very easy to purree and feed your wee one.
Most vegetables can be prepared this way, but I did not give them cabbage, Brussles Sprouts or broccoli when they were very young because it is a bit strong and gave them gas. However, green beans, peas, carrots, potatoes, yams, spinach, beets, winter squash or pumpkin are all excellent. When possible, purchase locally grown fresh produce. It takes very little time to prepare these veggies and we found that we ate healthier foods too because i was preparing them for the babies.
Put a cup of cooked oatmeal in the blender with a half of a fresh ripe peach, nectarine or berries and a tablespoon of yogurt and you have a perfect and yummy breakfast.
Blend plain yogurt and fresh berries, peaches, bananas or any fruit for dessert.
Fresh fruits are wonderful to puree; peaches, cooked apples, berries, bananas, cooked pears, steamed appricots or prunes. Mix these with cooked brown rice, quinoa or other cooked grains.
My 'babies' are in their thirties now and are very healthy. I blieve the good start we gave them with fresh, home made foods gave them a head start on life.
