Sakkarai Pongal - Sweet Pongal Recipe
Sakkarai pongal is a sweet variation of ven pongal. Learn how to make sakkarai pongal/ sweet pongal by following this recipe. Sakkarai pongal is made with rice, moong dal, jaggery and seasoned with cashewnuts, cardamoms and raisins. I have also included sakkarai pongal video at the end of this hub.
- Raw rice - 1 cup
- Moong dal - 1/4 cup
- Jaggery ( powdered) - 1 1/4 cup
- Cashewnuts - 15
- Ghee - 3 tablespoons
- Raisins - 12
- Cardamom powder - 1/2 teaspoon
- Water - 6 cups
How to make sakkarai pongal / sweet pongal recipe:
Roast the moong dal on low heat for 4 to 5 minutes. Cook the rice, dal with water and pinch of oil in the pressure cooker for upto 5 whistles. Keep aside for later use. Take another pan and dissolve jaggery with 3/4 cup of water, cardamom powder and mix with the cooked rice. Keep the stove on low heat for 7 to 10 minutes and stir well. Garnish with roasted cashewnuts, and raisins. Sakkarai pongal / sweet pongal is ready to serve.
