Tomato Rice Recipe - South Indian Takkali Sadam
Tomato Rice Preperation
Tomato Rice or Takkali Saadam is a South Indian Recipe and a good item to pack in a lunch box.This can be made with leftover rice as well.
Ingredients
- 2 Cups of Rice Cooked
- 2 Large Juicy Tomatoes pureed after removing skin
- 1 small Onion Thinly sliced
- 2 Green chilies cut into 2
- Curry Leaves
- 2 tsp grated Ginger
- 1/2 Cup Peanuts
- Mustard seeds: 2 tsp
- Urad dal : 2 tsp
- Channa dal : 1 tbsp
- 1/2 tsp Cumin Seeds
- Masala ( Dry roast 1 tsp Coriander seeds, 1 tsp Channa Dal and 1/2 tsp Fenugreek seeds.Once cool grind them into a fine Powder)

Method of Preperation
Cook Rice and keep aside. Heat Oil in a Kadai and do a seasoning with mustard seeds, urad dal, cumin seeds and channa dal. Once done add the peanuts and ginger and roast well. After that add Onions, Green Chillies and curry leaves and fry for 2-3 minutes. After that add Tomato Puree, turmeric powder and salt and allow to boil mixing continuously. Once done add Coriander leaves and the prepared Masala powder and mix well. Mix the gravy with rice without mashing it. Serve with Papads and raita.
