Hawaiian Maui Snack Foods

Hawaii is a great place to vacation, it is one of the best trips I have ever had. The minimum stay for many tourist is two weeks. My husband and I stayed 9 days, so we grocery shopped at a couple local stores to buy food and snacks to save on expenses.

We purchased a variety of snacks at the General Store near our resort, which was walking distance. Macadamia nuts is a favorite in Hawaii, but there are dozens of other snacks you might enjoy. But just in case you're not up to traveling hundreds of miles away or don't want to pay the expense, bring Hawaii to you by getting some of these tasty treats. I've added a few of the foods to this hub also. And please watch the video, because the author brings snack tasting to life.

Once we arrived back home from a long flight on a Saturday afternoon, my first snack was the potato chips. I enjoy all kinds of chips and was happy to try the Maui Style for the first time. They were flavorful and crunchy - a little more crunchy than other popular brands in my neck of the woods.

The colorful chip bag drew my attention. The graphics on the packaging is fun and funky, so that encouraged me all the more to indulge in one of my favorite treats. I don't want to think about life without potato chips.

Breakfast

For breakfast and daily snacks, we had some yummy pineapple. The pineapple was fresher than I am accustomed to. We also enjoyed scrambled eggs and sliced turkey. The pineapple orange juice was way too sweet to drink, but it had a good taste.

Our studio condo was equipped with nice new stainless steel appliances to make cooking a breeze. My husband enjoyed cooking breakfast daily, plus we saved on our food bill.

Cook Some Meals Yourself

We stocked our refrigerator with a variety of food and snacks, but not too much because we didn't want to have to discard any food we had bought. Save your money by purchasing groceries at a local grocer, so you can splurge at other main attractions.

Chocolate Macadamia Nut Candy Bar

Any kind of food with chocolate and nuts is a sure winner for me. The chocolate Hawaii Macadamia Nut candy bar was delicious too. I ate the bar single-handed, no one else had a chance to experience the chocolate delight.

I understand why Maui calls this candy bar Wow Wee! Do you like chocolate and nuts? There are also other kinds of macadamia covered with chocolate to enjoy like the Wow Wee bar.

Make Your Own Hawaiian Cookies

One of the cool things about visiting Hawaii is, you get to bring back lots of snack foods and you can purchase your own mixtures and bring it home to share with your family. Many of the souvenir shops sell cookie, pancake and banana nut bread pre-mixed batters.

Gummi Candy

People with a sweet tooth for gummi candy, can find ginger lemon candy at many stores. The candy is soft and not very chewy, and you will be glad that is does not stick to your teeth or gums. The ginger lemon candy smells good and tastes good.

Snacks are a very important food when you're gone a long time, so you will want a variety. Get a mixture of sweet, salty, fruit and make sure you drink plenty of water. We purchased large bottles of water from a grocery store in Lahaina for $.99.

Pizza at The Local Diner

No trip is complete without getting a pizza. We were blessed to be on the main highway, and we were near many restaurants. Just a few miles up the road, was a pizza joint that served a fresh salad bar.

Once we arrived at the Round Table late one night about 9:00 pm, the salad bar was still open with very fresh fixings. We helped ourselves to the salad bar and enjoyed it, even into the next day.

Spam is Common in Maui

Spam is very popular in Maui. When you are in the aisle of the grocery store with the spam, you will see many different flavors: jalapeno and black pepper were two flavors on the shelves.

Many people I know despise spam, they say they grew up eating spam and don't want to be reminded of the taste nor the site of it. Spam is relatively inexpensive, which is one of the reason's it is appreciated.

Conclusion

Hawaii offers some very unique snacks that you won't find anywhere else. Break up the monotony of eating your traditional snacks and treat yourself to some Hawaiian Maui style snacks.
