   You need to have a wide mouth jar,  three wooden toothpicks and  an avocado seed.  Your avocado should be bought almost at the peak of ripenening.  If when buying you gently shake the fruit, and you sense a movement of the seed in the fruit, it is a mature fruit. Make sure it is fully ripe and then use.  The seed or pit can be left out for a couple days.  Then you introduce  the seed to water in your wide mouth .  You dont want to cover the entire seed.  Put the tooth picks into the pit, pick should be located so the seed will not sink into the  jar.  The flat side of the pit or
   seed should be allowed to be immersed into the water and kept afloat by the tooth pick,  Make this availabe to sunlight.  I dont have a time limit, but soon you will see root emerging from the seed.  Leave in water until you see shoots.  Logic will tell you when it is ready to be planted.
