Quick Ice Cream Dessert and Sorbet Recipes

Updated on July 7, 2011

Friends, its summertime and very hot outside, so today I will share with you one ice cream and one sorbet recipe to beat the heat. Interestingly, both these dessert recipes can be made very easily; one with the help of an ice cream maker and other using a blender. The idea is to make chilling and tasty dessert recipes using zero calorie sweeteners like Splenda. Here you go.

I recently bought an Ice Cream Maker (Cuisinart) from Williams-Sonoma. Believe me this thing rocks! Here is my first recipe I made using this ice cream maker.

Vanilla Ice Cream

You need to make this recipe using:

  • Half Cup Splenda (or sugar)
  • Half Cup Heavy Cream
  • Half Cup Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • Two Cups Whole Milk
  • Two Tablespoons Vanilla Bean Paste (Williams-Sonoma)
  • Dash Salt

Whisk the above-mentioned ingredients together until they are well blended. Melt a bit of sugar or Splenda in a couple of tablespoons of very hot water. Put this in Ice Cream Maker for 20 to 30 minutes. Then, put in freezer container and freeze for one hour to firm, or eat soft!

Remember to not use imitation vanilla that is made by soaking alcohol into wood containing vanillin, as its taste is disgusting and use pure vanilla.

Pineapple, Orange, and Banana Sorbet

You need:

  • Two bananas (not too ripe)
  • One and half cups of cubed pineapples
  • One cup of orange juice (not from concentrate)
  • Two tablespoons lime juice (lemon is okay)
  • Half cup Splenda (or sugar)
  • One-quarter cup of light corn syrup

Blend fruit, juices, and corn syrup in a blender. Whisk in some Splenda (zero calorie sweetener). Add to ice cream maker for 20 to 30 minutes. Serve and enjoy.

Quality ingredients are, of course, important. The more ripe the fruit is the more flavor and sweetness it will add to the recipe, so you may have to moderate it a bit with different ripeness levels of fruit. Also, Williams-Sonoma sells Madagascar Vanilla extract. I bought the paste form, which has the little vanilla specks in it (so it looks like you used a vanilla bean). This stuff is pricey, but well worth the taste.

Both dessert recipes mentioned above are quick and easy to make. Now go ahead and make some for your friends, family, and relatives.
