Dragon Age Inquisition Can All Characters Use Magic?

Updated on January 24, 2015

The simple answer to this question is no; unfortunately only mages may use magic in Dragon Age Inquisition. Each type of character: mage, rogue, and warrior can only use that type of fighting abilities. Mages may only use magic to fight, warriors may only use swords and bigger weapons, and rogues may only use knives and bows. Each character may only use their set weapons however the game play is not like Skyrim where magic offers many spells and options. The mages may learn different spells for battle, but warriors and rogues can also learn new abilities for battle. So in essence all the characters are equal.

However while all of the characters can have the same number of specialized attacks not all attacks are the same. For instance warriors have to get in close with enemy to attack while rogues can attack from any distances. Mages need to stay at a distances because hand to hand combat is impossible and if the enemy gets close to them a lot of damage can be done and the mage has no close range defenses. So far character selection in depends on you. Do you prefer to charge in or weaken the enemy from a distance?

When selecting your race you can wing or do a bit or research first. The main thing to know is that humans are at the top then all the other races are below them. Expect to be question a lot on why you would help humans if you are an elf even more so if you are an elf mage. Also romantic options are limited by race some characters will only fall in love with certain races and certain genders.

Mage Specializations

Knight Enchanter-They summon blades from the Fade and are experts in protection and defense.

Necromancer-These mages specialize in binding the spirits that are drawn to death. They can put the fear of death into enemies, bring spirits to fight on their behalf, and even cause devastating explosions when their enemies die.

Rift mage-These mages draw upon the force of the Fade, either pulling matter from the Fade to attack or twisting the Veil itself into a weapon to stagger or crush their enemies.

Rogue Specializations

Artificer-Deadly traps; Distracting contraptions; Marvels of engineering turned to deadly purpose.

Tempest-These unpredictable experts specialize in using alchemical mixtures that wreathe them in frost or flame. Fast, chaotic, and possibly mad, they wade into the fight and dare enemies to face the storm.

Assassin-They specialize in quick, deadly kills that let them slide back into the shadows undetected, or indirect kills that eliminate targets while the assassin is safely away.

Warrior Specializations

Champion-Champions use their armor, weapon and awareness to shrug off incoming attacks while holding critical positions on the battlefield and protecting allies in the process.

Reaverr-As the battle gets bloodier, these vicious and deadly warriors get even more brutal. Hurting them just makes them mad, a mistake most enemies don't live to repeat.

Templar-No enemy's magic can withstand them, and they inspire and protect their allies with their righteous power.
