Kingdom Hearts Birth by Sleep for the Playstation Portable (PSP) platform is the latest installment of the series developed by none other than the "RPG King" himself, Square-Enix. Like previous versions of the game, Birth by Sleep takes place across a medley of Disney worlds, throw in a couple Final Fantasy characters into the mix, and the fun begins.
The story takes place several years before the events of the first Kingdom Hearts when Sora, Riku, and Kairi were little pee-wee children. As the trio was growing up, three friends, Ventus, Terra, and Aqua, were all training to become Keyblade Masters under the instruction of Master Eraqus. On the day when Terra and Aqua are to be knighted as Keyblade Masters, events to this new story unfolds that send the three friends in different directions, and its along these three paths that Birth By Sleep takes place.
The most impressive aspect of Birth By Sleep is how the storyline is divided into three separate parts. In order to figure out the entire storyline, you must finish each part which takes about 10 - 15 hours each to complete. This might come as a setback, playing the game three times from beginning to end but Birth By Sleep pulls it off flawlessly because the three characters' stories are entirely different. They visit the same worlds but at different times throughout the game. They also meet different characters, fight different bosses, and visit different areas of the worlds. Each character plays slightly different from another, making each play through an entirely new experience.
Birth by Sleep's gameplay is equally solid, thanks to its streamlined battle system, the graphics are visually stunning, the voice-acting is up to par (including the Disney character voiceovers) and the soundtrack is excellent, made up mostly of Disney remixed classics along with some tracks that were used in previous Kingdom Hearts titles.
Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep won't disappoint fans of this series and what better way to enjoy the game, on the go, wherever you go, with Sony's Playstation Portable. This videogame is available only for the Sony Playstation Portable (PSP) and will be released in the United States September 7, 2010.
