Character Background

Plastic Man was created by Jack Cole, for the 1941 issue of Police Comics #1. The character would later be updated by Phil Foglio.

Patrick Edward O'Brian started out as a criminal going by the name Eel O'Brian. During a heist at a chemical plant, Eel was shot and exposed to unknown chemicals. The chemicals entered Eel's blood, through his bullet wound, and changed his physiology. Depending on the origin story what happens next changes to fit the time in which it was written, but Patrick discovers his new powers and has a change of heart. He uses his abilities for good and becomes the superhero Plastic Man.

Super Powers

Patrick does not exists in a solid state. Instead, his body is fluid and gives him total control over his physical form. This power allows him to do much more than stretch his body. He can shrink down to only a few inches or grow to the size of a skyscraper. By combining his size and shape powers, Plastic Man can shapeshift into almost anything, including objects with moving parts. He can change his color, but this requires intense concentration, which is why he rarely uses this ability. His body can alter its density to be as hard as a rock or as flexible as a rubber band. While in a rubber state, his body can detect ultrasonic frequencies by rippling with their movement. Plastic Man is almost invulnerable. His body can be dispersed, but he can withstand both physical and energy attacks. Even telepathic attacks are useless against him, because his brain is not comprised of organic matter. As long as he retains 80% of his body, he can regenerate and heal from any injury. Once he was reduced to molecules, but the JLA was able to gather enough of his remains for him to reconstruct himself. He is believed to be immortal, especially after the “Obsidian Age” storyline has him at 3,000 year old and still being an active superhero.

The Packaging

This four piece set comes in a small polybag. The front marks it as belonging to the DC Universe and shows his membership in the Justice League. Since this set was available through pre-ordering the new LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham game, The LEGO Video Games logo is located on the back. The code H2VB8Z printed on the front can be used to unlock the Plastic Man character as a playable character in the game.

The Minifigure

The minifigure is based on his appearance in the Flashpoint Comic series. This was done by giving him red pants. Older versions of Plastic Man have him bear legged. The front of his classic costume was also opened from the midriff up. This torso piece has the more conservative low cut V neck.

LEGO Super Powers

Plastic Man may have a fluid form, but a LEGO minifigure is made of hard plastic. However, minifigures are also designed to be assembled with several pieces. So, by adding LEGO pieces to different sections of the Plastic Man minifigure, you can replicate a few of his abilities.
