Practical Hobbies

My day starts early and I keep thinking what to write. I was choosing between writing about my deepest and darkest secret or about practical hobbies l enjoy and at the same time earn money. But, I am not going to give out my secrets that easily, so I choose to write about my hobbies. And maybe, I am about to give up some of my secrets at the same time.

The following are practical hobbies that I enjoy. I would still be doing these things all over again because I love these with a passion. Even if no one is paying me to do so.

Writing/Blogging

Thank you for Hub Pages - you get to write and earn at the same time. As a side bonus, you get to meet people from different backgrounds and interact. I started out with Blogger.com and here I am now with Hub Pages. The difference between Blogger and Hub Pages is- in the latter, there are administrators that can keep tract whether your hub is substandard and checks if your blog is using watermarked photo. When this happen, do not lose hope. Do not give up and forgot all about the website, your password and the internet. Rather than pull out your diary and write the pain and suffering you feel because of rejection, you can still edit your hubs and re submit for publication.

And even if some of my articles get unpublished after a year of inactivity, I have finally have the time to edit and publish them all over again.

Reading

I love reading any topic as long as it is well written. There are a lot of materials for reading but too little time to read them all. There are some sites that will pay you to read articles and rate them but choose wisely. Being a proofreader or a freelance reader is a much better option. You need to build a good reputation and develop essential skills if you do intend to be a paid reader.

Online Games

Our motivational speaker once told us that it takes about twenty-one days to develop an addiction. I was intently listening to him about it because I was addicted to online games. Any games from Facebook that I can check gave me an instant fix. But I was surprised when I started writing again, my constant need to check on my dragons or other games became secondary. Writing even replaced that need.

Now I can honestly tell you I have been cured of online games addiction. And yes, you can get over this with help from friends and focus on other practical hobbies.

Sewing

This article started out because the buttons of my uniforms just sort of popped out and ran away from me. Its a good thing one of my hobbies that is nearing extinction is sewing clothes. I tried once to enroll in a technical school but I was not able to finish the two-week course. My hobby then evolved into sewing for practical purposes. When I need to sew, then I took out my sewing kit.

Motorcycle Driving / Bicycling

Another hobby that I have developed in this Pandemic era of Covid is bicycling and motorcycle riding. I have learned to add another skill because when you have a lot of time in your hands, you have a chance to develop new skills. It will improve your brain and develop new neurons. It will also help you fight Alzheimer,s disease.

And by adding motorcycle driving as a skill, I got my new job as a Field Officer for a lending company.

Gardening

Another hobby that can be profitable is planting vegetables and garden variety plants. They are a source of food and excess fruits can be sold or bartered for profit. As they say, when you plant your own food, eat them and sell them, you will live a healthier and happier life.

Choosing your own hobby will mostly depend on who and what your personality is. Mostly because of the influence of people around you. The important thing to keep in mind when you choose your hobby is practicality, affordability and most of all because it's fun, fun fun!
