Robot Dinosaurs That Shoot Beams When They Roar is possibly the very best arcade shooter game ever created by a carbon based life form. There, I said it. This game quite clearly traces its lineage back to the old space invaders arcade games, in which the player would pilot their 8 bit ship along the bottom of the screen, doing their best to shoot oncoming asteroids, other ships and all that sort of thing.

Robot Dinosaurs That Shoot Beams When They Roar advances this concept by turning the entire affair on its side, thus creating a side scrolling arcade shooter and by replacing the ship with a robot dinosaur, that, as you may have already picked up, shoots beams when it roars.

Created by noted Kongregate developer, I Smell, Robot Dinosaurs That Shoot Beams When They Roar isn't just an arcade shooter with dinosaurs, it's a personal statement, as the creator himself attests in the heart warming, bowel moving introduction to the game: Yo dawgs. I just finished a new one, and it’s an introspective take on a personal life experience I once had that I think leaves me emotionally vulnerable, while encouraging the player to think about their own feelings and how they’re percieved by the people around them.

So I encourage all players to tip a thimble full of chocolate milk out when they play the game - you know, to show respect and that sort of thing.

If this hasn't yet convinced you to at least give Robot Dinosaurs That Shoot Beams When They Roar a chance, then you may want to head into hospital quickly and speak to a coronary specialist. You may just be missing a heart, which will not only negatively impact your gaming experience, but may also be a hindrance in other areas of your life.

The graphics of the game aren't bad, in fact they're downright quirky. I especially appreciated the romantic opening scenes in which a young couple canoodling in the moonlight are set upon and indeed, eaten by the aforementioned robot dinosaurs who not only shoot beams when they roar, but lack a basic respect for human life.

Game controls are blissfully simple, if you can operate a mouse, you can operate this game. Simply wave the mouse about to control the placement of your roaring robot dinosaur and click the mouse button (the left one) to shoot beams. The only blot on the brilliant horizon of this game is the fact that your beams run low very quickly and often need time to recharge, which means that you occasionally end up breaking things with your face.
