The Sims 3 Ambitions Time Travel

Updated on June 12, 2010

Time traveling is perhaps one of the most exciting facets of The Sims 3 Ambitions. You can only time travel if a sim levels the Invention skill and builds a time machine, which will take you a wee while if you play without cheats, and not all that long if you use the 'testingcheatsenabled true' cheat and click away all those annoying moodlets relating to the need to eat, sleep, toilet or shower.

The time travel machine is a portal to events past and future. When the sim has gathered his or her courage, they step inside, choose to go to the future or the past and then deal with what may come. The Keeper of Time is a constant scourge of time travelers, and oftentimes time travel is cut short because of his appearance. Don't bother trying to warn Marie Curie about the dangers of radiation, or saving Abraham Lincoln, the Keeper of Time is bound to take offense and chase you back to where you came from.

Though you don't actually appear to go anywhere when you time travel, you can come back with some amazing bonus items, from books to death seeds, (seeds with the power of death), to strange historical and futuristic outfits. Some simmers even report coming back from the past with children in tow. Of course, your hauls may be less exciting, perhaps a rubber duckie and a gnome will be all you recover at first.

As you first make your foray into time traveling, it will take you hours to recover, but as you become a more experience time traveler who slips in and out of time streams with all the alacrity of a spawning salmon you no longer need to recover so much and can take quicker consecutive leaps forward and back through time. Of course, if you want to take the quickest trips of all, using the testing cheats method above allows you to travel multiple consecutive trips.

Time travelers have to attend to personal needs, of course, so don't be surprised when your sim returns from the past with minty fresh breath (from the floor hygenator), or nicely rested, or even with 7 days of good mood from eating the most divine meal imaginable. Remember, even though you can't see it, what happens in the time stream, doesn't stay in the time stream. It will stay with your sim forever.

It is more than worth taking the Inventor career to gain access to time travel, and it is more than worth buying The Sims 3 Ambitions for the myriad of new careers, skills and possibilities it provides. (Like the ability to Woohoo in the present, past and future. Oh yes.)
