CityVille: How To Make Money Fast: Cheats, Tips and Tricks

Updated on December 10, 2010

Your CityVille Gaming Strategy Guide

Welcome to the unofficial Gaming Guide for CityVille, a fantastic new addition to the "Ville" franchise of Zynga Games.

I absolutely adore these games, not only are they well designed and satisfyingly challenging, they're also graphically outstanding for being a free online game!

CityVille, like many of its famous non-free predecessors (like SimCity), allows players to build their own metropolis from the ground up!

Everything from building homes for your CityVille citizens to starting business franchises and even try out your green-thumb farming!

There's so many things to do and keep track in your city that you'll never find yourself bored of this aesthetically and mentally stimulating game!

The Money Supply

As your city grows, so will your money supply, which consists of coins and cash. This money allows you to build and expand your growing city!

Here's a quick rundown of the currency system of CityVille:

Coins: Easy to earn throughout the city. Can be used for purchasing more homes, buildings, buying goods and decorations, and city land expansions.

Cash: Premium form of currency, can only be earned by leveling up in the game. Cash can also be purchased through Paypal, credit card, or Zygna Gift card.

Breaking Ground on Your City

Gaming begins with an introduction to your first neighboring city's mayor, Sam! Sam offers you a beginning tutorial to help you get your city started.

For a small town can become a thriving metropolis, you're going to need citizens. Sam shows where to find houses that you can build to increase your city's population.

She'll also show you how to harvest crops, build businesses, and start your own chain of franchises! Once you're done with the tutorial, you'll be able to play as you please, everyone's favorite part!

Collect Rent from CityVille Citizens

Once you've completed your tutorial, it's time to get to work!

Building houses for your citizens is one of the most important keys to success in CityVille There are lots of reason to build houses in your town.

Here are the main financial benefits to building houses in your town:

  • Collecting Rent: Each house you build will accumulate rent for you to collect. Each style of house has a different amount of time it takes to collect the rent and different payout amounts. Once a house's rent is ready to collect, a money icon will hover over the house, letting you know you can collect your bonus!
  • Increased Population: The more people you have in your town, the faster your businesses will earn money. Building more homes increases your population.
  • Utilizing Unused Energy: As you progress in the game, you'll find yourself with energy that you have no use for. For example: You've already collected all business bonuses and crops. Building more houses allows you to use the remaining energy so it doesn't go to waste.

Businesses and Community Buildings

Businesses:

A great way for your city to grow and make money quick is to start lots of businesses. From bakeries to bike shops, CityVille offers a wide variety of retail stores you can open in your city.

Each type of business has a certain level of inventory it can hold. When the business runs out, it'll show a money bag above it, this is your sale earnings. But before you can start making more money, you need to restock your shelves! When you business needs restocking, it'll show a brown shipping box above it.

Community Buildings:

As you already have realized, you can make money from clicking the homes of your CityVille citizens. Once you've reached your maximum population, the only way to build more houses is to build community buildings to keep your citizens happy. This will increase the number of homes you can build.

Community buildings require more than just energy and money to build. Some community buildings will require you to hire friends as staff members before you can finish your building, while others need special building materials before completion.

Earn Money Even When You're Not Playing

That's right! Once you've supplied your stores, your citizens will be able to shop til they drop, despite whether you're actively playing or not!

This makes playing CityVille a breeze. Log on, play for 10 minutes, supply your stores, collect all available rent and bonuses from the community buildings.

Come back an hour later to collect the earnings that you made while you were away!

Growing, Buying & Selling Goods

Every city in CityVille starts out with it's very own barn and 4 heady-to-harvest strawberry crops. Once these crops are harvested, those goods will be transferred to your goods storage bar at the top of the screen. Her you can monitor your crop inventory.

Now what do you do with your goods? You can replenish your businesses inventories to allow them to continue operation or you can decide to sell them to your neighbors. To do this, you'll need to have 5 or more neighbors.

Visit and Help Neighboring Cities

This is a great win-win situation! You get to help out each one of your neighbors and in return, you earn money, goods, energy, reputation, and experience points.

Each day you'll be given 5 energy for each neighbor's city to help out in their city.

Keep in mind: The more you help your neighbors, the more they'll help you!

Find and Trade in Collectible Items

As you play CityVille, you'll notice that you occasionally earn a special bonus item when you collect rent, business earnings, and grown crops.

These special bonus items are part of collections. Once you've completed a collection, you can trade them in for coins, experience points, goods, or even special items, such as white picket fences and purple flower beds.

Purchasing Coins and Cash

If you don't feel like working for your coins and cash, you can purchase them directly from Zynga through a Paypal account, credit card, or Zynga gift card.

Honestly, if you plan on playing the game, you'll earn more than enough coins to complete your city. There's no reason to invest actual money for coins.

Cash on the other hand is much harder to earn, so if you really want some of those premium items, purchasing City Cash packages is your best option.

Collect Bonuses From Your Friends' Feeds

One of the best ways to earn bonuses quick in CityVille is to check out feeds from your friends. During gameplay, you'll open new businesses, accomplish various City goals, and occasionally level up. Each time any of these, or many other particular situations happen, you'll be prompted to send a special bonus out to your other CityVille friends!

Bonuses from feeds include everything from 50 - 100 coins, experience points, and special items to help decorate your city. You can also send feeds out to ask your friends for help, like asking for zoning permits to expand your city or invite them to establish a franchise in your city.

Final Money Making Tips

Decorations:

There are actually many financial advantages to making your city pretty. When you place decorations next to houses and businesses, they'll add an additional percentage to the amount you can collect.

Zynga has made it a staple of their games to supply you with tons of great decorations, so make sure you use them!

Add Neighbors:

It may not seem obvious to everyone, but the more neighbors you have, the more money you'll earn. Neighboring cities allow you to build additional franchise locations, earn more daily helping bonuses.

Adding CityVille neighbors will also increase the number of free gifts you're likely to receive from your friends. Again, the more free gifts you send, the more you'll receive.
