Diablo 3 First Follower the Templar

Updated on May 19, 2012

Diablo 3 First Follower

In Diablo 3, the hero can take on companions who will follow the hero around and help him or her with questing. Although the hero can take on companions (like Leah and Haedrig Eamon) who will accompany the hero on odd quests for a short while, the diablo 3 first follower will not appear until the hero descends into the cathedral level 3. Here the hero is asked to rescue the nameless hero from the dark cultists. After Jondar is defeated, the nameless hero will reveal his name as the templar Kormac, and he will accompany the hero as his first follower.

Diablo 3 Templar Kormac Skills and Level Up

The Templar Kormac can be leveled up at levels 5, 10, 15 and 20. At each level, the hero will be involved in leveling up the templar's abilities.

At level 5, the hero can choose between Kormac's skills which are -

  • heal – this skill allows one to heal the templar or the hero, or
  • intervene – this skill taunts the enemies when the hero's life is low.

At level 10, the hero can choose between the templar's abilities which are -

  • loyalty – this ability provides life regeneration for the hero and templar, or
  • intimdate – this ability allows enemies attacking the templar to slow down.

At level 15, the hero can choose between the templar's skills -

  • charge – this skill allows charging at an enemy, dealing damage and stunning the target, or
  • onslaught – this skill allows one to deliver a massive blow to an enemy.

At level 20, the hero can choose between the templar's abilities-

  • inspire – this ability increases the hero's resource regeneration, or
  • guardian – this ability allows the templar to come to the hero's aid when the hero's life is low. The templar will knock nearby enemies back and heal the hero.

Diablo 3 Equipping the First Follower the Templar Kormac

Apart from choosing the follower's abilities, the hero can also choose the right equipment for the templar Kormac. These equipment slots include the weapon slot, the neck slot, 2 ring slots and a shield slot. Kormac will start with the spear in the weapon slot, although this can be replaced by a magic weapon such as a flaming sword. This will affect the follower's stats which include strength, dexterity, intelligence, vitality, life, armor and ultimately damage.

Diablo 3 Using Templar Komac's Abilities to Complement Hero's Class Skills

The choices between one or the other of Kormac's abilities may be made to complement the hero's class skills. These choices between one or the other abilities can also be used for other followers that will accompany the hero on his quests. For example, for the wizard hero who excels in dealing damage from afar and can become easily overwhelmed by melee enemies, it may be worthwhile to choose healing and regenerative abilities for the templar to preserve the hero's health so that he can deal massive damage to enemies wihout losing much health. This will include the loyalty and the guardian ability as described above.
