Guild Wars 2 - Is it Really Free-To-Play?

Guild Wars 2 is an online role-playing game (MMORPG) developed for the PC. Guild Wars 2 is usually is shortened "GW2". The game has been in development since 2007, and released on 28/8-12.

Guild Wars 2 will not have a monthly fee. It will however be micro-transactions, it will be possible to buy things inside the game that is bought with real money. This is also found in its predecessor, Guild Wars. Unlike "free MMORPGs" the player must still buy the game first. Although this is the same as its predecessor. Many confuses the Guild Wars buissniess model with all the free mmorpgs out there, so keep in mind:

Guild Wars 2 is NOT free and do cost money to buy but there's no monthly fee.

Guild Wars 2 - What's it all about?

Here's a quick summary of the game and what you can expect in the world of Guild Wars 2.

For the players wishing to play competitive PvP, some of this done in a partially separate system. In this system, all players begin with their avatar on the maximum level and with access to the best equipment in the game. The aim is to have a cleaner form of competition which is similar with how most of the FPS games work. By winning, it will possible to get access to equipment which looks different. Such equipment will probably not be better than other equipment.

Another type of PVP (World vs. World) will occur in a specific zone, "The Mists" in which large scale battles will be taking place. The aim is to take over and control the various resources and defenses. Certain elements reminds about RTS game in which players takes the role of individual battle units. There is an ongoing war where various servers meet and where the winner will receive various kinds of rewards for the entire server. This part of this game are described as being more accessible to persons who spend less time in the game because the player can jump into it for a while and help out as a cog in the war machine and then be replaced by other players.

Besides these two forms of PvP there will also be the opportunity to play PvE in a genre for more traditional way in a world that is divided into distinct zones. In this part of the game is also a possibility to play more independently than at the PvP area where the teamwork has an enhanced role. You can also play PvE in a group as in other games in the genre.
