Losing weight can seem like a daunting tasks, & the things you need to "give up" to accomplish this goal are much different than you might think.

When people think about losing weight, they picture that 3 day cleanse, Juice fasting, low-carb, diets, etc. If you’re someone who struggles with their weight, you might always be looking for the "hot new diet" that will magically make it all easier.

Sorry to break it to you, but staying slim and healthy is usually about making a commitment to lasting lifestyle changes—not the latest trendy diet.

However, what we want to show you today, is that you really don't have to give up much of anything, to improve your overall health! However, When you do "give up" the things below, you will be gaining GOOD positive habits, and helping your body naturally be able to manage its weight more efficiently. Everyone will be jealous, with your body's new and improved, natural weight management!

1. Give up on Crash Dieting

With the new year, this has been a very popular "thing" lately. So many of my friends are posting about their "3-day Cleanse" and Crash diets for big events, but what they don't realize is how unhealthy this really is to your body. So if you’re in a wedding next weekend and know that only eating cottage cheese will kill five pounds, or everyone in your office is trying the juice cleanse, and you feel almost left out if you don’t participate..... resist the urge!

Strict diets are unhealthy, but that's not all. In the Women's Health Magazine, Dr. DiCarlo states that: “Studies show strict diets & juice cleanses don't work, they slow your metabolism, and you will gain all the weight back... If it’s making you dizzy with hunger, it’s definitely not a long-term solution."

To me, it doesn't even make sense to do something that ISN'T long term. There is no reason to waste your time. That is why I hate using the term "loosing weight," Instead, I love to help people "manage their weight." This is long term and helps people, like YOU, have a healthy happy future!!

DID YOU KNOW: Going "Gluten Free" is NOT a diet choice. Some people simply have allergies to gluten, and cannot have it in their diets. But CHOOSING to be Glute

2. Give up Skimping on Sleep

If you’ve ever felt heavy-lidded at your desk and inhaled an entire snack without even paying any attention to what you were doing, then this is your body letting you know, that your sleep affects your eating habits.

“Sleep loss is the number-one culprit that can throw your hunger cues out of whack,” says Dr. DiCarlo. "The good news? This may be the most enjoyable habit to break—and the benefits of getting enough sleep can extend into all part of your life."

Skimping on your sleep should be an EASY thing to give up! It is recommended to get about 7 1/2 to 9 hours of sleep each night. So if you have to wake up at 6:00am, try to go to bed by 10:00pm at the latest. Getting enough sleep is a simply habit to start giving your body more energy, focus, happier moods, and even improve its metabolism.

3. Give up Banning a Food

Everyone has an all-time favorite junk food or an item that you can’t stop eating once you start. However, crossing it off your grocery list forever will only heighten its appeal and make you crave it even more.

“Try not to restrict any food from your diet because they will become more attractive when they are forbidden,” says DiCarlo. “Instead, allow yourself the food in moderation.”

With this, take caution, you know your own habits.

  • If you're certain you will eat a whole box of cookies if it's sitting in your pantry, then you should only buy yourself one cookie.
  • And when you’re consuming it, eat it mindfully. “Slowly enjoy every aspect of flavor, texture, and aroma so you are truly satisfied,” says DiCarlo.

Cutting out these sweets and treats completely from your diet, isn't something that will be long term. You should enjoy life, and treasure treats, but eat them with caution and in small amounts. Limit yourself to the amount you eat, so that when you do get a bite of that cookie, it will taste even better!

4. Give up Not Getting Your Vitamins

Now, this goes along the same lines as not banning a specific food. You see, when your body is getting its vitamins, minerals, fruits, vegetables and other super food intake, naturally, your taste buds and cravings will adjust. When your body is getting full nutrients each day, it actually won't even WANT any sweets, so without even trying, you will cut back on snacking and eating unhealthy treats, simply by feeding your body the nutritional intake it NEEDS.

However, if you were to go to the store to buy a month supply of all the vitamins and minerals your body needs, along with the fruits and vegetables, it would EASILY cost nearly $500.... That is just not realistic for most people's budgets, including my own.

That is why my husband and I did a lot of research and found the BEST Alternative to truly give your body what it needs to run right. We simply drink 1-2 drinks of the Zeal for Life Wellness Blend each day. I can tell you all of the incredible ingredients it contains, or you can simply try it on your own, and just FEEL the difference in your body. You muscles will ache less, your cravings will diminish after about a week, you will have more energy, focus, mental clarity, and will simply get back your drive for life!

It is amazing what you body can do, when it just has the right nutrients!

Now, the video below is a little dated and cheesy, but I really like the message it portrays about how important it is to really treat your body right. Take a look!

5. Give up Eating Fat-Free Foods

"Fat-Free" doesn't mean a thing... Low-fat cheese, butter, and cookies might still be hanging out in your kitchen right now, but remember that fat is not the bad guy.

Women's Health Magazine breaks this down for us. “We need fat to keep us full and promote satiety,” says DiCarlo. “Removing fat from food will leave us craving more and overeating later. Picking fat-free versions of certain foods can even cause you to take in fewer nutrients from them. Removing fat from foods like dairy prevents absorption of important fat-soluble vitamins like A and D—and calcium, as well.”

Just removing "fat" or "sugars" from things by eating fat-free foods and drinking diet drinks, is NOT going to be what helps you lose weight. In addition, doing this can even make your body lose out on vital nutrients, which you know that these nutrients help prevent our body's from craving foods and sweets.

6. Give up Skipping Meals

Last, but not least, don't NOT eat!! It seems like simple math, right? If you skip lunch and eat a normal dinner, you just saved a ton of calories. But that’s not how it works.

Dr. DiCarlo explains, “Your hunger hormone—ghrelin—and satiety hormone—leptin—work best when nourished every four hours. If not, they go out of whack and can cause overeating later.”

This is why, with Lai Rupe's "90 Days to a Better you," we encourage you to try our "5 Meal Ideal," and eat 5 small meals every day, feeding your body a little bit every four hours. Try planning your meals ahead of time, especially on days you know you’ll be crazy busy and might be likely to skip. You can also carry meal-replacement protein shakes with you for those "in-between" meals! This makes eating five meals fast and easy.
