Alkaline Verses Acid in Cancer

Cancer cannot survive in alkaline.

Visiting a fellow hubber I found out someone had recommended baking soda to him for pain; that the pain may be gout and that he was seeing a result in little time, or he was pretty sure. Well, I am wild about any natural remedies so I set off to see if indeed he may have the gout, which someone had recommended this remedy for and found out that yes, gout could be caused from diabetes which this friend has and that yes, baking soda could relieve this pain! I get so excited over things like this, don’t you? This search took me farther than I ever dreamed though and was so very interesting; I just had to share it.

Baking soda has been praised much and I am sure we all know many of the benefits from whitening teeth to keeping the fridge smelling fresh and probably we all have heard it is good for indigestion, maybe a few of us have tried it. Probably not more than once or twice though, we didn’t make it a part of our life did we? Would it be a good idea if we did?

I read wonders about it, indeed. The Journal of the American Society of Nephrology, 2009; revealed a study of 134 patients with progressed kidney disease given baking soda daily significantly lowered the development of their kidney disease, with the end result of no need for dialysis. How about that!

Baking Soda

Do you use baking soda other than cooking?

  • No, that is all I use it for.
  • Yes, I use it for many things such as cleaning and personal hygiene.
  • No and not for cooking either.
  • Yes, but I plan to check out the health benefits further.

Cancer can't survive in an alkaline body

Also, there are interesting health benefits when you drink baking soda, which is alkaline, in water. Diseases and viruses such as colds, flu, and even heart disease and cancer will thrive in an acidic body, but cannot survive when your body is alkaline. What a huge thing to know! So you want to just start guzzling it right away, but wait up. We need all the facts before starting on anything we really know nothing about.

This had a very interesting tie to my hubs of hyperkalemia; being one of the things that can lower high potassium. It could be a life saver and it is good to know all we can to help ourselves and I will be the first to say I have been really put out by doctors, yet there is much they do know that we don’t. Even if it is like pulling teeth to learn anything from them our knowledge helps us ask the right questions and lets them know we mean business.

Perhaps if we speak to them with more knowledge we will receive better and more prompt treatment? Regardless, knowledge can and does increase our chance at better health.

Cancer Cure?

Understanding Alkaline

When tissues in the body are lacking in oxygen they are prone to cancer. Cancerous tissues are acidic, healthy tissues alkaline. A solution containing more H+ than OH- is said to be acid. If it contains more OH- than H+ it is said to be alkaline. As oxygen enters an acid solution it can combine with H+ ions to become water. Oxygen helps neutralize acid, while acid prevents oxygen from reaching the tissues that need it. Acidic tissues are lacking free oxygen. An alkaline solution is just the opposite; an alkaline solution can provide oxygen to the tissues.

In trying to understand this; the pH scale goes from 0 to 14, 7 being neutral. Under 7 is acid and over 7 is alkaline. Lymph, blood, and cerebral spinal fluid in our bodies are designed to be somewhat alkaline at pH of 7.4. Over this 7.4, cancer cells become dormant and at pH 8.5 they will die as healthy cells will live. Very beneficial then is increasing the alkalinity of the tissues such as vegetarian diet, the drinking of fresh fruit and vegetable juices, and dietary supplements with alkaline minerals such as cesium, calcium, potassium, magnesium and rubidium. It has been proven though that nothing can equal to the alkalizing supremacy of sodium bicarbonate for safe and effective treatment of cancer. Baking soda. Why is this not on front pages everywhere?

Now it is not simply that astounding benefit we can look forward to from Baking Soda but possible a stopping of pain from gout. Wiping out flu or colds or very diminished when they do occur. I think this is a great discovery!

As with all things though there is many times a warning. Baking soda is salt and many people for whatever reason, high blood pressure for one, cannot tolerate it. Possibly cutting back salt as you use it and monitoring your blood pressure could allow you to try it. If taking for gout you should know that gout also raises blood pressure, so these are things to consider and discuss with your doctor. It really depends on your health and should be discussed with your healthcare provider, naturally. I would not advise you to just start this treatment without really knowing what you are doing even as exciting as it sounds.

I started out using it just brushing my teeth and getting small bits gradually with a slow increase checking my blood pressure daily.

Easy does it

If you do decide to try this there are several measurements recommended online and differing ways to ingest it. I recommend the wrist blood pressure monitors for certain if you have blood pressure issues. Life Source is one I have used for years seeing home health nurses use them and checking them against the doctor’s offices and ones I used in stores such as Wal-Mart let me know this one was very accurate. They can be found for between $20 & $30 and last for many years if taken care of. Nothing could be more simple to use.

We learn baking soda is number one for treating cancer, or at least certain kinds and I will leave some links that go further with that. Do not be discouraged though if baking soda cannot become a part of your diet for even though they may not be as good as baking soda and not related in curing cancers; there are other things to raise alkaline or lower acid which we see here is so important for our health and feeling good. Maybe as a new diet they can even become very close and could a simple gargle of baking soda do a body good without harm? Learning is really exciting isn't it? Isn't natural always the best way to go?!

Wow, Jackie. Good job giving us the 'low down' on baking soda! I use it for indigestion a good bit, and I like adding some to my laundry. Oh, and I keep an open box in the fridge. Then, after a while, I replace it with a new box and pour the old one down the garbage disposal. What would we do w/o Baking soda?

Jackie Lynnley profile image

Jackie Lynnley 3 years ago from The Beautiful South Author

Thanks rebecca, it is certainly something to start looking at more seriously. I read accounts where doctors cured cancer with it. Of course I doubt that is anyone in the US where everyone and his brother has to profit from our woes to the very end...and past. I am still researching.

Learning is exciting and the pain relieving properties and high alkaline of baking soda are great things to know. Very informative and well written piece, Jackie. Without looking on the links yet how about mixing a bit of it in water with high alkaline squeezed lemon you think?

Jackie Lynnley profile image

Jackie Lynnley 3 years ago from The Beautiful South Author

Well it is said if you can't tolerate the soda you can use lemon or lime for the alkaline Alastar; but I don't think that would be a treatment for cancer. Still; anything we can do to keep our body alkaline I would say it is a goal we should strive for. Mixing the two, I don't know...wanna try it and let us know? lol Please don't hurt yourself.

Jackie, interesting article. I have used baking soda for acid indigestion because it was a home remedy my dad used. I no longer use baking soda thanks to a prescription my doctor gave me for Nexium. Nice to know the other benefits.

I already know to be careful Alastar. When you take meds you can't be too careful.

Jackie Lynnley profile image

Jackie Lynnley 3 years ago from The Beautiful South Author

Thank you Sheila and do take care. I plan to start gargling with it and using a very small amount until I see how it effects my blood pressure since that is something I do not want to mess up, but it is amazing information I want to look farther into.

I know billy, why wouldn't this hit front page and I read some of the doctors who used it for cancer and it worked. Surely scientist should be on this!

Thank you, Cousin, you may want to take note of the nexium side effects. I took it years ago and it caused a horrible effect, not sure what it was but if you start feeling like you have had all you can take of it, you probably have, lol. (In chest area) I just use Gaviscon now and it works great and is the only form of magnesium I can get that doesn't hurt me. Which is important to get. Usually a full teaspoon does me though you can take 4. Sometimes twice a day though. I eat too may spices and love pizza. lol

Other than gargling with it Alastar, I do plan on researching it further because the first I heard of it I did like most of us will do and guzzled a glass and it did make my blood pressure go up. Not a lot but still I want to hold back and do it right until I do see my doctor in January, and I would feel awful if anyone hurt themselves on something that seems so harmless but may hold side effects as many things do. Now we all know we want alkaline bodies, maybe baking soda will help us or maybe we will have to work around it some. Time will tell...or me one. lol Soon as I know!

I'm not convinced about soda. I know that eating alkaline food is important. This is what I know. ... Soda? I use it for cleaning purposes - sometimes. I'll read more about this issue. Thanks for writing this very important hub. Voted up and shared. Interesting.

Jackie Lynnley profile image

Jackie Lynnley 3 years ago from The Beautiful South Author

jantamaya- if you will check my cancer link and there are others, you will see it is a proven fact, and what gets me about it is I am sure many went to their grave never knowing while the facts are out there. That does not mean we can be our own doctor but soda without a doubt has miracle powers.

Jackie Lynnley profile image

Jackie Lynnley 3 years ago from The Beautiful South Author

Debbie, if you are on Nexium I recommend you go off it if you still have trouble, I did because it hurt me and I am using Gaviscon and I only have a teaspoon at a time although you can have up to 4 at a time. The measurements on the soda was 1/2 teas twice a day but since we are not healthy kids and take other medicines I would not advise you to start this without talking it over with your doctor and if you have blood pressure problems you need to know this will probably raise it. I started it and went off with my blood pressure rising some but am thinking of just using it as a gargle twice a day because for flu and colds that is still beneficial without side effects until I can talk it over with my doctor in January. If you do decide to go ahead I would use even less than 1/2 tsp at a time and only drink a small amount to see how you feel in a few moments. I am searching for more on this and it is a wonderful find but has potential danger if not used wisely I fear. Please take care. Thank you.

I use green tea daily to keep cold/flu away and have had neither in years. I use fresh apple cider mixed with my teas and they are better than Tylenol for pain. Hope you try these I know for sure and can swear by until I find out more on the soda for safety.

Jackie Lynnley profile image

Jackie Lynnley 3 years ago from The Beautiful South Author

You are most welcome Debbie, I guarantee the tea and cider for now, and I will not recommend anything I am not sure of. I know the soda is good too but there has to be what is right for each individual according to their health and medications. Really our prescription meds are so very bad for us but we must take them until we learn something better. Sounds too like the Nexium is having the same bad side effect on you as it did me. (The chest thing!) Gaviscon is instantly better and over the counter too.

Jackie, I love it. Using natural things, instead of chemicals are better for one's health. I'll bet it would even help a bit with those that have salt issues, to just brush one's teeth with the baking soda. Some will still be in their systems, but not enough to cause any harm.

Jackie Lynnley profile image

Jackie Lynnley 3 years ago from The Beautiful South Author

I didn't want to say that avian, but that is my thought too. Gargling, teeth, bath, all those things have to help a little and I wouldn't think be any danger. Must be similar to what we call bicarbonate of soda (also sometimes used for teeth-whitening) (that's why I think similar to baking soda) - my mom used to make a paste of bicarb and a little water to spread onto minor burns when I was a kid - took out the sting of the burn, and helped provide less chance of skin damage and scarring. Also good for reducing the pain of a blue bottle sting if you swim in the ocean a lot. Also put some in the bath to draw out sunburn. Didn't know about some of its other uses though - thanks!

Jackie Lynnley profile image

Jackie Lynnley 3 years ago from The Beautiful South Author

Yes, Teresa, that is exactly what it is and I have numerous boxes from buying it to get free magazines and had no idea, so I will be trying it for everything. Fridge has always been my main use for it, not personally. Now I make it my last med at night in a small dose. Please do make sure it does not have any adverse effects on you, friend. I am starting slowly since a large dose raised my blood pressure, probably from the salt which I am sensitive to.

Teresa Schultz profile image

Teresa Schultz 3 years ago from East London, in South Africa

Thanks for the warning, but n0 worries - even though I was interested to hear all its other uses I'd not yet heard of, I generally don't take anything regularly - I usually just dose myself up when something goes wrong.

There is so much truth in this article, but god forbid the pharmaceutical companies be overthrown by what we have naturally. Chemo kills more than it cures, my opinion from what I have seen in my lifetime.

My doctor prescribed 1 tsp in water for kidney stones and the prevention of getting them only after I got severely ill from the prescription. So they do know about natural cures, and I think it has a lot to do with money.

Great write up!

Jackie Lynnley intriguing Hub! There is evidence that using organic apple cider vinegar daily can balance out the body's ph, too. Thanks for great information.

Thank you ajwrites; I do use the cider vinegar, not every day but just about! I know it is very good.

Thank you Deborah-Diane and be sure to only use it sparingly to start to see how it effect your blood pressure; etc. It did raise mine so I use it sparingly but think it really is a good thing!

I remember my daddy drinking soda and water years ago for his stomach upsets! I never knew it could be used as a remedy for other ailments!!

I only use soda to clean, so I have learned some new things on your Hub.

If a simple thing like soda could cure cancer, that would be a miracle!

Voted UP, etc.

Wouldn't it Mary? I only repeat the claims I don't make them but I will certainly keep a little in my system to hopefully prevent! You do have to watch the sodium! I have known people who use to use it as antacid and maybe they did not even know too much could run up their blood pressure.

Thanks for reading!

I found this very interesting. I know of many benefits of baking soda but I didn't know that it could cure cancer.

I find it interesting that alkaline over a pH 8.5 will cause cancer cells to die without hurting normal cells.

That's a powerful statement and I'm surprised that it is not better known. Maybe it's not publicized because of the other problem that you mentioned -- That baking soda raises high blood pressure. That could be just as dangerous.

So it's like a Catch-22 situation. As you said it has to be monitored and it should be discussed with one's doctor before starting to use baking soda.

Yes indeed; but like many others I keep a trace amount in my system for better that than cobalt treatment I figure...risk there too and either do or don't so not much choice when the disease has already gotten you. I have a hub on cancer foods and I use everyone plus some.

Hi Jackie,

I stumbled upon this great hub here, and I am surprised it doesn't look like I've read it before!

Just recently, my husband discovered using baking soda helps his indigestion, although he does take Nexium, but the baking soda works immediately. He just puts about 3/4 of a tablespoon and mixes it in a little water and drinks it, and the indigestion subsides right away.

I have brushed my teeth with it and used it for cleaning, etc. I read just recently online that it may be too abrasive for our teeth, as I was just about to use a little bit mixed with lemon or lime juice to whiten my teeth after seeing a video, and then after further research, the American Dental Association doesn't recommend adding the juice as it is too acidic for one's teeth and makes the enamel go away, and even more so with the baking soda. However, over the years I've used baking soda by itself on my teeth and haven't had a problem.

I didn't know about the added salt, though, and will let my husband know because we are both on blood pressure meds, but with the small amount he uses every now and then, it shouldn't be a problem.

Informative hub! Sharing

That's true Theresa about the salt and since I am prone to have my blood pressure go high I don't drink it (wish I could) but I do use it for my teeth and tongue ever so often to get it in my system some that way. (Don't rinse after using it last brushing.) I have to remind you though that for digestion problems I use the Amish stuff which I discovered by accident taking it for my legs that it clears up acid reflux in just a few days and does immediate good too but to have it always in check you have to remember at the first sign to use it for about a week and then you are good for a long time and if you remember to use some in between just now and then you don't have to go on the few days. I am doing that now, on about the third day cause as we get older that food is not so kind to us! lol The first night I used it I was still uncomfortable so chewed a couple of peppermint tums and it fixed me right up. Acid reflux can be some scary stuff! I use to take Nexium and it made me feel real bad like a build up in my chest so I won't take it anymore and no use to now.

Meant to tell you about a place you can get the quinine in pill form if you didn't know about it.

Thanks for the share and I will check see any of your I might have missed! Or just especially liked.

Oh, I had forgotten about the Amish stuff, but I think I remember you telling me it helped with digestion. Acid reflux is really scary. I had two bad episodes of it a long time ago after eating spicy foods late in the evening ...never again! Now I sleep elevated with a couple of pillows and have not had it in years, thankfully.

Oh, yes, I do have to drink the tonic water with the quinine for those bad cramps in my feet. I wonder if too much quinine is good though. I would be interested in the quinine pills, but it is so easy to drink the tonic water.

Don't worry about sharing any of mine, as I am working on a new hub and hopefully it won't be too long before I am ready to publish.

Take care, sweet friend

Already did...found one of yours I did not know about.

I have a new one too but just not enough energy to get it together. Maybe about mid-week.

You take care and have a quick and easy week! I am back to therapy!!!

Oh, good! I look forward to reading it. An idea just popped in my head LOL.

Being I had breast cancer, I want to make my body alkaline too, and need to reread your other hub about alkaline water.

You take care too, and that therapy is necessary, but I know not always enjoyable!

I know it really is amazing how it can help. I enjoy it when it doesn't hurt! lol
