Chia Seeds Are My Favourite

Updated on June 19, 2011

I Love Chia Seeds

I was in the health food store a few weeks back and the girl suggested chia seeds, my response at first was "haven't you just got a pill I can pop". I thought it was going to be to hard to work out how to take these seeds on a daily basis, she told me no so I decided to give them a go. The first thing I did when I got home was of course to jump on google. It is just what I do with most things, so the more I researched and read about chia seeds I was nearly going to go back to the shop and give the girl a big hug.If anyone suffers from health problems you need to read on and I would love some feed back if you have had a good experience with chia seeds

Chia Seeds For Thyroid Health

The first thing you need to know is I am not a doctor or have any knowledge on medicines , this is about what I have found to worked for me. Please see a doctor or naturopath before you go and stop taking medicines and start on chia. Also check at the health store that they do not interact with any medicines you are on. A good health food store will have staff that have a lot of knowledge so you do not make a mistake. Now that I have cleared that up I can tell you what they have done for me and also a list of other uses for them.

Just over a year ago I had some blood test done and they come back showing I had high thyroid inflammation levels, at the time I was working around 70 hours a week and was very run down and tired so it was good to know why , the only problem was is that after having scans and biopsies on my nodules I still was no closer to getting better. When you only have an inflamed thyroid with a goiter and nodules and it is not cancer they can not give you anything. It is an autoimmune problem with my body attacking my thyroid which can be triggered by stress.

After a year and having not worked for a while and rested like they said my levels have not changed , I had enough of doctors by this stage so I wanted to try and treat myself with natural medicines.

Anyone with any sort of thyroid problem will know how crappy it can make you feel , I am lucky I have only gained a small amount of weight and I wanted to fix this before it turns into hypothyroidism, I have spent hours researching the thyroid and also how to treat it naturally .

I started taking my chia seeds every morning for breakfast, I mixed them in a small tub of yoghurt followed by a big glass of water.

Chia seeds swell up in liquid so you feel full, it also helped with my blood sugar levels, I was not craving lollies or chocolate.

I increased my dosage each day , they say to start of slow and build up , I have 6 teaspoons a day now.

I Feel Better Now

After about 2 weeks I noticed a difference in how I felt, not so many headaches , a bit more energy, tummy was not as bloated, no cravings, no sugar drops, and I could tell I was starting to lose weight.
I do not weigh myself I go by how my clothes fit.
I know I am not totally healed as I still have energy slumps but it nothing like it was before , I am going to wait 3 months and have all my bloods done again, I had them done the week before I started so this to me will be very interesting.

Chia seeds are great for weight loss , they keep you feeling full .

Chia Facts

I am going to point out a few things I have learnt about the health benefits of chia

Nutrition , Chia seeds provide heaps of calcium ,protein, omega-3 , vitamin B12 , iron , zinc, magnesium , antioxidant pretty impressive so far.

Protein

The protein in chia seeds are easily absorbed in the body. Protein is good to build and repair tissues, including muscle, bone, cartilage, skin, hair, and nails.

Chia seed contain 60% omega 3 fatty acids.

Great for vegetarians with so much protein that contains b12 and 8 amino acids

Chia is high in fiber, a 15 gm serving of chia seeds will provide 4 to 5 gm of fiber. We need 35 gm of fiber a day to stay healthy.

Chia contains boron which is essential for bone health.

Chia seed is rich in calcium, about 60 grams of chia seeds contains 600 mg of Calcium, a cup of milk. has only 120 mg.

Chia contains 2 times more potassium than a banana.

Chia contains 3 times more antioxidants than blueberries.

What Is It Good For

Weight loss , as I said before this little seed will keep hunger away and is cheaper than all the diet shakes out there and better for your health. If you crave sugar etc just give them a go for a couple of weeks, so easy just mixing them into some yoghurt.

Blood sugar, if you have trouble with your levels or diabetes runs in the family get onto these pronto. Keeping your sugar levels stable throughout the day will stop those mid afternoon chocolate bar cravings.

Keeping regular, since they contain so much fiber you are sure to have a nice healthy bowel.

Heart and cholesterol health Omega 3 , if you are like me and find fish so expensive or no ones wants to eat as much as they should this is a good way of getting enough omega 3

Anti-aging, Anti-oxidants help prevent free-radical damage in your body. So to help stop premature aging of the skin and inflammation of various tissues.

It seems to good to be true doesn't it.
