Weight Loss Gurus
My all time favorite weight loss guru is Richard Simmons. Back in the day when I was first concerned with my weight (did I never not worry about my weight?) I purchased all his exercise videos and loved dancing and groovin' along with him. Sweatin' to the Oldies, Tonin' to the Oldies - nothing could get me up and moving like Richard did. Besides his great sense of humor, he always has very positive things to say to motivate you to keep your weight off.
He even has a web page at: http://www.richardsimmons.com/j15/ and he sends daily messages to his fans even now.
This guru has helped individuals lose 3 million pounds of extra weight over the years. He understands because he was there. In high school he weighed over 250 pounds and was picked on by some classmates.
Richard grew up in New Orleans and sold pralines on the street corners. He finally got hold of his weight and has been an activist for fitness ever since.
Richard Simmons now has a studio called Slimmons in Beverly Hills, California and invites the public to be part of his DVDs. Some people find him annoying, but I personally think he is very entertaining and adore him for helping so many people that might have died or been chronically obese without his help.
The latest little powerhouse is Jillian Michaels. She is only 5 foot 2 inches and 112 pounds of dynamite. She has trained 7 of the 8 winners on TV's Biggest Loser . She is not known for her gentle nudging towards loss weight, but pulls no punches with her kick-ass or die workouts. She makes people cry and is currently trying to change her image.
Jillian was born in 1974 in Los Angeles, California. At 14 years of age she was 175 pounds. Her mother enrolled her in martial arts and it transformed her into the person she is today. She has a black belt and became certified as a personal trainer. She opened her own gym, has been on television, has written books and has her own reality show Losing it With Jillian . Her website is:http://www.jillianmichaels.com/
She has definitely come a long way in a short amount of time.
Another Weight Loss Guru that I have spent many hours suffering with is Denise Austen. She has been known for over 25 years as a fitness expert. She was born in San Pedro, California in 1957. She began taking gymnastics at age 12 and earned an athletic scholarship to the University of Arizona. She then earned a BA in Physical Education.
Denise was especially interested in the subject of muscles and their natural range of motion. She used this knowledge to create exercises that could safely exercise all the major muscle groups. She became an aerobics instructor and with her energy, personality and good lucks she became very popular. She was invited by NBC to appear on Today for four years. Her website is:http://www.deniseaustin.com
She then produced her own line of exercise equipment that the average woman could use in their own homes to stay fit. She advocates simple changes in lifestyle. She emphasizes portion control and daily exercise.
