I am so happy to announce that the Center of Spiritual Living in Dayton, Ohio will be the best place in Dayton to be on Tuesday nights from 7pm to 8pm! A map is provided at the bottom of this post for your convenience.
On August 2, 2011 I will be starting up a new meditation class for the community. These classes are free and everyone is welcome to attend. Love offerings will be gratefully accepted, but not needed.
There are so many benefits that can be gained from a daily meditation practice. I'm sure that you have heard about all the wonderful things that meditation provides. In case you haven't, though, here are a few:
- Increases exercise endurance
- Excellent for those with high blood pressure
- Helps with chronic diseases such as asthma and arthritis
- Reduces PMS symptoms
- Improves how the immune system functions
- Helps with weight loss
- Great for headaches and migraines
- Helps with your ability to focus and concentrate
- Improves learning ability, memory, emotional stability, and creativity
- Brings with it a peace of mind
- Deeper understanding of yourself, others, and the world around you
- Brings your body, mind, and spirit in harmony with one another
- Creates a deeper connection or bond with the Divine (God)
- Gives you the opportunity to experience 'Oneness' with the universe
I know that there are a lot of people that try to meditate and say that they just couldn't do it. It is a difficult thing to train our minds to slow down and be quiet for a little while. In this busy day and age, we spend so much time training our minds to multitask and do as many things as we possibly can, that when we try and quiet it down, it acts like a rebellious child. This is similar to a person deciding that they want to run a marathon. You don't go from doing nothing to running a marathon overnight. It takes training and discipline to get your body in shape and ready to run that marathon. Training your mind to do meditation is the same thing. It takes patience, will power, and the desire to meditate.
What many people don't realize, however, is that there are a myriad of different ways to meditate. It isn't just sitting in a dark room. While this may work for many people, there are many people that just cannot meditate that way. Sadly, we are living in a cookie cutter world, where one size is expected to fit everyone. That is not how we are. We are all unique and different and we should be celebrating that difference, not trying to all fit into the same mold.
With my new meditation class I will be discussing a different way to meditate each week. I will go over this method and then we will spend time in class actually doing that meditation. You can then spend the next week practicing this method of meditation to see if it is the right one for you.
A few of the methods of meditation that I will cover in my class will include:
- Breathing Meditations
- Guided Meditations
- Music Meditations
- Mindfulness Meditations
- Qi gong
- Mantra
- Flame
Come and learn meditation in a loving and supportive environment. The doors are open and everyone is invited to come and share in this wonderful class!
