How to Forget a Person (When You Absolutely Must)
First Things First
It is good to remember the people we encounter in our lives. A strong memory is a very desired quality. However at times, in the interest of health and peace of mind, it becomes imperative to forget someone. This could be a former crush or a person who fought with you or humiliated you.
This article will provide you with practical tips to help you forget the person who just doesn't seem to be getting out of your head.
1.Stay Away
This is almost a no-brainer. Stay away from the person who unsettles you so much. If you live in the same block, avoid the routes he/she takes and avoid going out at the time he/she is most active. This will prevent you from accidentally bumping into him/her.
2.Don't React
If in case you inadvertently bump into the person who you are trying to forget, make sure you don't react to anything he/she has to tell you. Don't allow yourself to get sucked into a conversation with him/her. Doing so could make you say something which you might regret later. The last thing you want to do at this time is to create further emotional fodder for your mind.
3.Engage Yourself
Not for nothing do wise people say "an idle mind is the devil's workshop". If you are trying to forget someone, you can't do it by simply sitting around and doing nothing. Engage! Get involved! Do something! There are loads of causes in the world that need your support. Make a positive impact in the world and society you live in. Get you hands and feet dirty by planting trees or by helping your neighbour dig a compost pit.
Sign up for Karate, Yoga or music classes. Get passionate and immerse yourself. In no time you will be able to get past the person who had been haunting you for ages, and the best part is, you won't even realize it!
4.Be Social
Talk to people. Make new friends. We were made to live as communities, not as islands! The more people you interact with, the less you will think about the person you are trying desperately to forget.
Make it a point to step out and head to parties and other social gatherings whenever possible. Be cheerful and smile often. Ask others how their day has been. Spread the joy and revel in it!
5.Eat on Time
Uh!
Yes. Eat on time. Not eating on time, and skipping meals is known to cause emotional turbulence. In case you have any doubt, that's the last thing you want when you are trying to forget someone.
A full stomach creates a feeling of well-being. That's a great way to boost your morale.
6.Sleep on Time
Sleeping on time helps to energize. Getting 8 hours of rest every night ensures that you wake up without "that tired feeling". It provides you with a perfect and cheerful start to the day. On the other hand, hardly sleeping at all will make every morning a tiresome and torturous affair. It will ruin the rest of the day too, because you'll be yawning at the most inopportune times! And don't forget, the less you sleep, the more time you'll have to think about someone you'd rather forget!
7.Workout
Exercising is known to release endorphins. Having a regular workout schedule, besides improving your health, will also ensure that you feel a sense of self-satisfaction. Focusing on your well-being will help take your thoughts off unnecessary distractions.
8.Meditate
This probably sounds cliche'd, but the fact is, meditating the right way can really help you develop the right focus.
Here's an easy and effective way to meditate. Sit erect on a chair, or cross-legged on the floor. Breathe slowly and deeply, with a 4 second gap between each inhalation and exhalation. Focus only on your breathe. If your mind wanders, bring your attention back to your breathing. Practice this on a regular basis and you will get better at it.
9.Read Fiction
Haven't heard this before? Well, that's a shame because reading fiction will get your mind travelling to far-off and very interesting places.
10.Travel Often and Widely
Whenever you get the opportunity, make it a point to travel, if only to the next town. Doing so will help you gain precious experience and make you a collector of interesting and uplifting memories.
