Low Fat Low Calorie Smoothies

Updated on May 25, 2023

Smoothies

Low-fat, low-calorie smoothies can be made for a quick way to cool down, a way to get five-a-day if you're not overly keen on fruit or if you replace one meal a day with a low-fat low-calorie smoothie can even help with a calorie controlled diet.

In my case, I found it a great way to eat 5-a-day, I'm not a keen lover of fruit or veg, but I know that you need to eat these to keep yourself healthy.

When I went to Australia I found that literally everywhere I went had a smoothie stall. They love them, and the variety on offer made my head spin.

My girlfriend had a few different ones which sounded hideous to me but surprisingly when I tried them they were delicious, so as a healthy option for my poor diet they worked very well.

I also used a few of these to help with an acid reflux issue I have had for several years. A lot of the fruit such as bananas and melons are non-acidic so helped me greatly.

I hope there are one or two recipes in here you will like and try for yourself.

So below are a few low-fat. low-calorie recipes that I have tried and made myself at home using simple ingredients and they all taste fantastic. Please give them a go.

Banana and Mango smoothie

1/2x Ripe Mango.

1small Banana

1/4pint Skim milk

100ml Fruit juice

1tbs Low-fat natural yoghurt

I tried this one in Australia, I hate eating bananas; I can't stand the texture and I'm not overly keen on the taste but as I have acid reflux and this is a naturally alkaline fruit it is something I thought I had better try.

By having it as a smoothie mixed with other fruit it made it easier to get in the fibre, potassium and vitamin C that bananas hold.

It is also great to have just before a workout as it gives you endless energy. Bananas are a slow-release carbohydrate food so can still be providing you with the energy you need even several hours after consumption.

Mangos bring that exotic taste that can mask the taste of bananas if like me you are slightly averse to that particular taste.

Mangos can also boost the immune system and are good at keeping the heart healthy.

This one tastes great if you prepare it the night before and put it in the fridge.

Berry Smoothie

1/2cup Frozen raspberries

1/2cup Frozen unsweetened strawberries

3/4cup Pineapple juice

1cup nonfat vanilla yoghurt

This one is good as it contains virtually no fat or calories so is great if you need to eat but are on a calorie-controlled diet.

Pineapples are super rich in antioxidants and this smoothie will give you a huge hit of vitamin C which if you are heading into the winter months can be hugely beneficial.

Because the fruits you are using are frozen as well it makes the smoothie not only super quick to make but also nice and cold straight out of the glass.

5 Healthy Smoothies

Strawberry and Pineapple Smoothie

1med Portion of 150 Grammes, (approx 6 oz) of strawberries,

100ml Pineapple juice,

1sm Tub low-fat strawberry yoghurt, 2 points

One of the easiest and indeed tastiest smoothies to make.

This is the one I started out with as the ingredients are easy to come by and the process of just throwing all ingredients in and then blending is easy also.

You can use frozen strawberries for convenience if you have them.

A great fresh kick and is super easy to make.

Lovely!!!

Melon Smoothie

1x honeydew melon cut into 1" pieces

1/3cup lemon-lime soda

1pch salt

Fresh lime juice with the pulp of 1 lime

1handf ice

This one is very refreshing and yet again is fat-free and low in calories.

The salt brings out the flavours trust me.!!

This is one I used time and time again when trying an acid reflux diet. I did not use the lime but everything else was the same and it brought me a lot of relief from my symptoms due to the honeydew Melon which is non-acidic. I also swapped out the soda for fat-free lactose-free milk.

Thats the great thing about making your own smoothies. You can experiment and try new ingredients and you will nearly always create something you like by playing about with what you put in.
