Motivation For the Soul: Mass Media's Depiction of "Skinny"
Mass Media's Influence on Us
Just my thoughts...
It's appalling to come to the realization of what the majority of society classifies as the real definition of physical attractiveness. The ugly truth is that this epidemic is only getting worse and the media isn't helping; it's actually making it worse. Seeing how the generations are rapidly evolving and progressively getting out of control on this idealism of "beauty," I can only imagine what how society will turn out when my two year old daughter comes of age. Truthfully, that scares the heck out of me, as it should and I'm sure most parents/future parents reading this agree with me.
Most influences portrayed to the mass media is all but real. Women/Men (gosh, even children at times) depicted in the media are; over glamorized, over exaggerated, revamped and more times than not, falsely accurate. The media's obsession with Photoshop (etc.) is not only altering images, but also the minds of SO many.
Everyone of every shape, size, color, age and gender are beautiful. As long as one is is not hurting their body with dangerous measures like eating disorders, or compulsive overeating with rapid weight gain, but is someone who is medically healthy, that is what truly matters. Skinny boned, medium boned and big boned have equality. We are all unique, special and beautiful in our own right and that is the beauty of it!
So, OWN with whatever the good Lord gave you and appreciate your individuality. Be the best YOU that YOU can be. We need to remain healthy and can not let the media influence society's view on it. Our children depend on it and if it's not already to late, I suggest you give your children a heads up before they witness it for themselves.
Now, I may sound like I am preaching, but I just want my voice to be heard, hoping for some listeners. For my daughters sake, for the sake of us and for future generations that are getting fed into it.
