Damascus Rose - My Favorite Badger Product.

I finally ran of the last of my Evolving Body Oil: Wrinkle, Shrinkle, Crinkle Oil

It is gone, the evolving body products are now called, the Damascus Rose Products.

Damascus Rose Beauty Products (was: Evolving Body Care Oil, is what keeps Lilly's face so young looking. Lilly knows it sounds like a commercial, but she does want to share the excellent products of a wonderful company.

I can make the 4 oz. bottle last several months.

The Damascus Rose Body Beauty products can even be used to tighten the girls up!

Oh, you know that little flabby part under the upper arm? It will help that too...yup.

After discovering how amazing the Sore Muscle Rub was on my ripped tendon(s), I tried almost everything Badger sells. I have tins and bottles tucked this way and that, always at the ready should some poor soul should come with a wound.

I Have Been A "Badger" For Over A Decade

As an environmentalist, and consumer, it concerns me that I am making the right decisions, supporting good industry, and other quirky rules for my path.

Fair Trade coffee is a priority, since coffee is a product I use a lot of. Being careful includes not putting my dollars behind a company who is notorious for pollution, unfair in civil rights, and treatment of workers.

When I use my buying power, to make a purchase, or hire out, my spending must support the best possible manufacturer, from initial production, until it becomes a waste product (or does not become waste, but is recycled, or re-used).

My Badger Story: Sore Muscle Rub

My Badger Story...One winter I was working on a landfill cell construction job as an inspector. This was a "trouble-shooter" job. It was 16 months over-due. The owner was mad, the State was mad, and the Contractor was in danger of being run off. They were already being sued, but since it takes years to "let-out" a job. It would not be easy or feasible time wise to hire another contractor.

I was good at what I did as a third-party inspector, and worked well with all parties to get this job done. I arrived on site in the middle November. It was very cold, and the cell was a booger. It was a 40 acre cell, built on cloth over a mine that no one knows how deep it was.

The walls to the cell were 200 - 300 feet from top to bottom and almost a 2:1 slope. That is steep. The hours we worked are from can to can't. We arrived on site before the Sun peeped over the Horizon, and then we put her to bed each night. Long hours, and it is not so easy to eat right, and take care of your body working like that.

I had been on the job almost a month...meaning we were finishing the cell. A landfill cell is required to have liners, and a final cover that can stand heavy machinery and then square tons of compressed garbage.

  • Protective Cover = 2 Feet of material that can be compacted to 90% psi. Some are 95% it depends. The cover must be tested and found withing specs for drainage and other criteria.
  • The Protective Layer in this case was sand. 2 ft of sand, on top of Geo-net or Geo Composite. A cloth made of spun HDPE Plastic.
  • The Geomembrane, which is textured on the slopes and smooth on the floor.
  • The clay or claymax foundation.

Each layer is tested extensively, by me the inspector, and the liner company who supplies the product. Because there was such a rush, there was no room for error. We had worked through snow, ice, flooding, Thanksgiving and about to be Christmas.

On different jobs, there are different liner crews. I had the pleasure of working with a Navajo owned and operated liner company. Assisting them during the ice and snowstorm. i would weight down the back of the John Deere Gator, so they could try to make it up the frozen slopes. Man that was cold.

The liner cannot leak. That is the job of everyone, to make sure all garbage juice is contained. It is so stinky, it becomes gas. Methane.

"...We Were Wrapping It Up..."

I was doing a final walk through to check the repair on a tear, and the weld to the industrial HDPE plastic piping used for the French Drain. I was walking the length of the toe of the slope, all the way across, for my final punch list.

I took my first step up the hill, I would make a zig zag inspection of the last protective layer of sand. Suddenly, from above, a few of the liner crew, and a couple of the operators were almost at the top of the slope, about 230 feet above me, They were yelling and pointing at a 10' x 6' strip of HDPE plastic liner, and composite, out of the protective sand cover.

I went crazy, I cussed, and my blood pressure went through the roof. It was below freezing, and I jumped to run up the slope, when I heard a SNAP, at the same time I was hitting the ground from pain. I stood back up, and painfully made my way up the slope, using one leg only.

It had been a joke. I appriciate their humor, and attempt to cheer everyone, and it is funny now, but my humor was not in place then, but was very glad the liner was good. Just a joke. After work, I drove myself to the emergency room. After 4 hours and no broken bones to set, I was told to take 6 weeks bed rest. [As they say, laugh out loud!] Inspectors are required to be on site, and due to being way over time, and at the holidays, I was it.

He gave me a prescription for pain, but I could not take it on the job.

On the way in to work the next morning. I stopped by Cracker Barrel restaurant for breakfast. I was in pain, a "12" on the chart from one to ten, so I inquired after Tylenol, or BC's, or anything. The older cashier showed me the Badger Balm display, and showed me the Sore Muscle Rub. I did not have much confidence in such a small tin of goop, compared to such Large pain, but there was nothing to lose.

I did not have to walk the slopes any longer, and as I sat watching them with the finishing touches, I would keep rubbing that Sore Muscle Rub into my calf. I used a lot, but there was still plenty left, when after about the fourth day, the pain dissipated, the swelling went down, and I could take steps on that leg.

There are scoffers and those who will say, it was just a sprain, or whatever. I have other examples where the use of any number of Badger products were better than what the doctor ordered, and with all natural products.

Badger Balm products started as a cottage industry, and they treat their earth and employees humanely and like family. Finally, after all of these years, go to any family member's medicine cabinet, and you will find a cute little tin, artistically done, in various stages of use. Some are bent, dirty, and almost empty.

Badger Balms, Lotions, oils and other products are highly safe, and highly recommended. This is a beautiful gift to give to anyone you love.
