Weight loss - Is the Diet Plan You are Following is Practical Enough to Continue?

Updated on March 12, 2016

The hype for weight loss is evident in today's time as obesity is a growing problem among the nations. I have been through several articles on weight loss on the web and been through various weight loss plans. I am not obese and have nothing to do with weight loss advice, but often write on weight loss as most of my writing requests comes from the people who deal with weight loss products.

The shocking truth is that obesity is like an epidemic that has affected 1/3rd of the world's population. According to a survey that was done on May 2014, around 2 billion people around the world are overweight of which the Middle East and North Africa tops the list of the countries with a maximum number of fat people. According to the research 60% of men and 65% of women in both the countries are obese. While the US comprise of 13% of the World's obese population and the statistics are actually alarming.

In fact, I read in one of the magazines where it was mentioned that a small survey was conducted in one of the schools in the USA. They monitored the BMI of all the children up to the age of 15 years, and the results were shocking. Almost 20% of the kids were obese, and around 2%-3% of the children were the victims of high Blood Pressure. I am not sure about the credibility of the source of the information, but sincerely feel if it is the actual scenario then it becomes necessary to find some foolproof solution to bring out the younger generation from the clutches of obesity.

Do you agree that obesity is the leading cause of diseases like hypertension, heart strokes and diabetes?

I have been through many weight loss diet charts and have seen that most of the diet plans focus on fluids, green & leafy veggies, fruits, dry fruits, low-fat milk and whole wheat bread, but the authenticity of the information is always biased. While some agree that such stringent diet plans work, the other are always clueless about its effectiveness.

The worst problem faced by the follower when on a diet plan is the urge to eat more for satiating the hunger pangs. It is evident to confront the issue of hunger pangs because our body is not accustomed to such food habits and sudden change in a diet is often bothering. Most of the people fail to adhere to such rigid plans as these are not practical for everyone to follow. Many of them either become the victim of chronic gastric problems and in some cases the problem gets advanced and converts to ulcers.

I do not say that all the diet plans have loopholes, but a sudden drop in a daily calorie intake is often not a sound solution.

The diet plan should be such that must not be over promising. Any diet plan that promises weight loss within a week's or month's time can never be foolproof. Generally, in most of the cases, the person who is dieting tends to overeat. It's my observation, and I have been through several people who fail to act to the requirements of the plan.

Only10%-15% of the people succeed, and most of them lose their facial charm due to weight loss.

Our body requires a balanced diet, and every food has its importance as all the food items serve human nutritional needs. There are some types of foods that have a significant impact on the hunger hormones. So eating right kind of food and then focusing on work out for shedding extra calories is a key to reaching weight loss goals.

The food that we should stick to for nourishing our body while following a diet plan are:

Eggs - A small research was done where a few percentage of the obese crowd was asked to eat eggs for breakfast. It helped them to stay satiated for long and made them consume lesser calories in the next 32 hours compared to light food like corn flakes and bagels.

Leafy Green Vegetables - Leafy green vegetables are rich in its nutritional value and also are a rich source of fiber. Hence, it makes a perfect weight loss diet

Meat - Meat is often criticized for being a fatty food. Undoubtedly, processed meat is not great for health, but if it is substituted for unprocessed meat like chicken breast or lean beef, it provides essential protein to the body and also does not increase the risk of heart strokes. It is a myth as eating high protein diet can help to burn 80-100 extra calories in a day.

Salmon Fish - It is the best food for keeping hunger pangs at bay. It keeps a person full for long and is rich in Iodine. Hence, it assists in the proper functioning of the thyroid gland and controls weight. It is also rich in Omega 3 that helps to reduce inflammation and makes a person feel lighter in a short period.

Boiled potato - Potato has a bad reputation among overweight people, but again it is loaded with few essential nutrients, and our body needs everything. So, eating one or two boiled potatoes in a day won't harm.

Tuna Fish - It is again rich in protein content and keeps a person satiated for a longer stretch without making you starve.

Cottage cheese - It's rich in protein and contains a low content of fats and carbohydrates. So, if you eat a lot of cottage cheese, you feel full for longer without stuffing extra calories in the body.

Avocados - Avocados are a wonderful fruit that is loaded with healthy fats, fiber, potassium and a lot of water. It has been proven that the fruit can help to lose weight by extracting maximum nutritional content from the veggies and restricts the intake of the extra calories. So you stay nourished without consuming extra calories. Isn't it cool?

Nuts - Nuts, though higher in calories, still allow a person to stay full for longer and makes an excellent snack and can assist in weight loss if taken in little quantity.

Apple Cider Vinegar -It is high in carbohydrates and makes a person full for a longer while. Individuals who include apple cider vinegar in their daily diet consumes fewer calories in a rest of the day. 15-30 ml of the total consumption of the vinegar in a day can help a person lose about 2-3 pounds.

Non-Gluten Whole Grains - Our body also requires whole grains and non-gluten whole grains can serve your weight loss needs to the optimum.

Fruits -Needless to say, fruits always tops the weight loss diet charts and eating fruits helps to get rid of toxins from the body and prevents the sugar from being released quickly. Fruits are a healthy and a good source of fiber too.

Yogurt - The probiotic bacteria in a yogurt assist in the proper functioning of the digestive system. Hence, is a perfect weight loss food.

Apart from all the above food items, the inclusion of grape seed, chili pepper, coconut oil and chia seeds also contributes to weight loss goals. It is essential to understand the worth of these foods in a daily diet.

Essentially, following healthy eating plan along with a regular workout regime will help you reach your weight loss goals. Always remember that slow and steady wins the race.
