How to overcome negative thoughts? Sure ways to fight it!

Updated on September 16, 2014

'Never cut a tree down in the wintertime. Never make a negative decision in the low time. Never make your most important decisions when you are in your worst moods. Wait. Be patient. The storm will pass. The spring will come.’ –Robert H. Schuler

I was watching Discovery channel the other day and I was fascinated to see a group of experts working to demolish a seven storey building. Detonators were placed in apt places and when everything was done, the demolition squad pressed a button. Boom! The building crumbled down to shambles within minutes. The building had the work of so many people! It was developed brick by brick! Now it was just a debris of sand, cement and bricks.

You too can destroy your life in seconds by your negative attitude. Do not be a detonator to your success.

It takes immense work from you to become successful. You work hard and intelligence to go up the ladder of success. But your negative thoughts and actions can act as a detonator to destroy your success, happiness and character. Negative thoughts kill your appetite to be successful. It feeds in the thought that you will not succeed.

So your mind refuses to work towards your success as you have already assumed that you are destined to be a failure. You never know your capacity if you do not try. Criticisms should not make you crumble with negative thoughts. Instead it should gear you up to give your hundred percent to be successful.

When do people become negative?

  • When they face persistent defeats
  • When they experience consistent rebuffs or rejections
  • When they live through an abusive childhood
  • When they have inferiority complex
  • When their emotions are persistently battered.

Why do you find it impossible to be positive?

The answer is simple. It is very easy to be negative as it needs no work on your part. You can just sit back and put the blame on your bad luck for your non performance. Your negative thoughts make you shrink yourself into a shell of abject dejection and depression. You wait for luck to turn towards you. Invariably it never happens.

You do not believe in hard work and find it comfortable to blame your bad fortune. Positive thoughts need hard work and improvisation from you to prove yourself. Negative thoughts beget you only defeat and depression. Positive thoughts make you strong in character and temperament to bring you success and triumph in life.

Abusive childhood

Your abusive childhood days might be linked to your negative behavior. When you were young your parents could have compared you to your more successful and intelligent friends and this might have made you unsure of yourself. The discouraging attitude of your parents might have left an imprint of negative thoughts in your mind.

Parents have responsibility

You should not compare your child with others and mock at your less intelligent child. You do not know how much harm you do to him when you pass derogatory remarks about his capacity. Your child crumbles inside in abject negative feeling that he is not a worthy person. When you are persistent in your nonconstructive approach towards your child, he grows to be a complex person with depressive thoughts in his mind and with negative approach towards life.

Appreciation builds confidence

If on the other hand you encourage your child and appreciate his small success, he develops assertiveness and faces life with optimistic outlook. Building up the character of your child forms the foundation of his life. It is over this foundation your child builds up his life to become successful and victorious.

You need incredible gumption

Persistent failure can make anyone stressed. You need incredible gumption and iron nerves to overcome your downfall. It is easy to accept defeat, but very difficult to fight against it. With the rat race for success at its peak the meek get trampled while the strong leaps over barriers to pluck success.

‘Fear is a habit; so is self pity, defeat, anxiety, despair, hopelessness and resignation. You can eliminate all of these negative habits with two simple resolves: I can!! I will! - Fear quotes.

When you say ‘I will’ your mind immediately becomes alert to your positive thoughts and your actions follow to make you successful. When you say ‘I cannot’ your mind becomes static and makes you impossible to think of your success. Your mind is locked to the thought of failure and you are jailed with negative thoughts and negative results.

Negative thoughts are like slow poison as it slowly kills your happiness, peace, mental strength and you shrink like a dwarf, accepting defeat with open hands. But when you are positive you emerge as a strong person who will not accept defeat easily and who will fight till the end to climb up the high altitude of success.
