You should eat whole grains and avoid white flour and products containing sugar. Eat brown rice and bread made from whole grain. Many whole grain breads are now available in whole wheat varieties this may seem a little heavy at first and those made from either grain such as corn are lighter in texture. Many interesting loaves of bread are now available from your health food store or organic supplier. This is usually made from organically grown wholegrain flour which has been stone ground but does make sure they are free of additives. Try grains and always aim to eat a wide variety as possible that focuses particularly on the dark green leafy varieties.

Salads

When eating salads it is important to think beyond the traditional lettuce and tomato combination. When choosing a lettuce salad select one with dark leaves since it will contain a higher concentration of minerals. Add chopped fresh herbs such as parsley and basil . While root vegetables such as carrots are best broken down by grating or juicing and stir frying. Nearly all other vegetables are prepared by chopping or shredding. Steaming and stir-frying are the preferred methods of cooking your vegetables. Always cook for the minimum possible time since too much heat destroys nutrients. Cooked vegetables should still be crunchy to get the most nutrients as possible.

Increasing amounts of protein in western diets corresponds to an increasing incidence of osteoporosis and it is interesting to note that communities of Eskimos eating a traditional diet of whale and fish have undoubtedly the highest rate of protein consumption in the world.
