40th Birthday Present Gift Ideas
One of my sisters' birthday is tomorrow and I've been racking my brain thinking of what she might possibly want. She is not one to want much and I refuse to give her what she needs, like a new set of pots and pans. Its her big 40th birthday and I really would like to give her something different, special as a present. Clothes, fragrances, plants, chocolate are a few of potential great gifts any other time or year but seem a bit too common to give on her 40th birthday. Plus for other birthdays and Christmas she gets all of the above presents from her spouse, kids, family and friends.
Being similar in personalities, likes and dislikes I think that if I am going to receive a present I would rather it be an abstract, relaxing gift of little bulk so as not to take up much space in the house. Over the years shelf space and closet space becomes as limited as prime ocean front real estate. Which makes me think, If I could get her a beachfront home I would. Who am I kidding? If I could afford a beachfront home I would get it for myself! She can always come visit.
I'm thinking a spa gift certificate for her. I know I love to get pampered and I'm an empty nester with half the household responsibilities that she has. I can only imagine a stay at home 40 year old mom with a toddler, two teenagers and a husband. The unending requests, chauffeuring, cleaning, cooking…. is enough to encourage me to jump off the balcony, run into the mangroves to never be seen again. If anyone can use a nice swedish massage gift certificate it would be her.
A gift certificate is personal and thoughtful enough yet allows her the flexibility to pick her own treatments. I think it might just be the perfect present for a 40 year old or any woman for that matter.
I’m still a bit torn though, they say that there is no replacement for the time that you spend with your loved ones. Maybe I should just take her out to a nice dinner or spend time with her watching a funny movie instead of thinking of what the best present is.
After a sleepless night, running the different options through my head I finally know what to do. Being the loving sister that I am I just might have to spend time with her, at the spa that is. I can give her as a present what I know she would really appreciate and love while spending quality time with her as well. The sacrifices you make for family!
