Buddha Purnima/Vesak
Happy Buddha Purnima/Vesak- may Buddha bless you with longevity, prosperity, and may all your illness, sorrow, danger, misery, and restlessness vanish. May all your wishes be fulfilled!
I just arrive from pagoda celebrating the mark of Buddha, birth-enlightenment-death. Buddha Purnima or Vesak is an important day for the Buddhist follower because it is a festival that marks Gautama Buddha's birth, enlightenment, and death.
Buddha Purnima is very important and in fact it is held on a full moon day in May. Vesak is the day where Buddhist follower pay special attention to Buddha's teaching. Most importantly this is a day where we are not allow to eat meat--according to many follower--only eat vegetarian food on and around Vesak. During this festival some pagoda would have Buddha statue placed in a basin filled with water and decorated with flowers. After monks recite, lay people would pour holy water on the statue to symbolize new beginning.
At some temple, monks would recite ancient verses, splash holly water on the lay people, and throw petals of flower as a symbol of upraising, new beginning of life, longevity, and all illness be gone to each and every followers. During that session you will feel bless...the feeling I get/experience was a relax feeling-a feeling of fresh or renewed in a way I couldn't explain.
