My 10 Favorite Things About Christmas
I love Christmas. To me, it's the most beautiful holiday and the one that's filled with love and joy. Every single person has his or her own Christmas. I thought I'd share my 10 favorite things about Christmas with you.
Christmas Carols
I love Christmas and Advent carols. Without them Christmas would not be Christmas because it would lack its spirit. I'm not talking about pop songs people call carols these days - I mean the good old traditional carols sung by English choirs, especially Cambridge college choirs. I love listening to St John's College Choir, King's College Choir, Clare College Choir and other carol CDs during the holiday season.
Christmas Decorations
Every country and even every town has its own unique Christmas decorations. Some don't bother too much about them, which others invest a lot of time and money into it. I love all sorts of Christmas decorations because they show the spirit of the place. I remember how wonderful Christmas was in Melbourne, Australia, where the town looked summerly and Christmassy at the same time.
Christmas Recipes
Who doesn't love amazing and wholesome Christmas food? And what can be better than cooking a Christmas meal together with your loved ones, as a family. You can go for traditional Christmas and have turkey or goose, or you can be creative and find some cool contemporary Christmas recipes that will make your Christmas lunch guests go "Wow!!!!".
Giving Presents
Everybody loves getting presents. But for me, giving presents is a lot more fun. I love wrapping them and I love the excitement I get when my presents are being unwrapped. And nothing can match the feeling of satisfaction that you get when you see that your presents brought joy to your loved ones.
Snow
I was born in a country where Winter lasts from late November until April. So I've had my fair share of snow and frost. But Christmas in a frosty climate where there is lots of snow really is very special. The feeling that you get when you look out of your window on Christmas eve and see the earth sleeping under a blanket of snow, as if waiting for a miracle, is true magic. When you see the snow sparkle in the moonlight, you start believing in Santa, just like when you were a kid.
Mulled Wine
When you get back from a walk in the snow, nothing can be better than a glass of mulled wine. Warm, fragrant, smelling of cinnamon and oranges - need I say more?
Scented Candles
I love scented candles at all times. But beautiful Christmas scented candles can make your holiday really memorable, especially if you are spending Christmas Eve with that special someone. My favorite Christmas fragrance is cinnamon and apple.
Christmas Concerts
I love Christmas concerts, especially choral concerts. I try to attend at least one Christmas concert every year. And this year I'm even taking part in one, playing at an English Christmas concert.
Love Actually
There are a lot of great Christmas movies, but Love Actually is one of my favorites. It's a great collection of Christmas stories that's both funny and seasonal.
Being with My Family
Nothing can beat spending Christmas with your family. Nothing is the same if you are not with your loved ones. I hope that this Christmas you can be with the ones you love and have a great Christmas!
