My Anniversary Debacles
Its been 3 months since my second wedding anniversary and I felt the urge to write the comic tragedy that happened on my anniversary! My husband is a king of surprises. He plans and executes surprises really well, without the surprise element leaking away even a bit. Me, on the other hand, not so great with surprises, but learned the art of surprising from my husband.
My husband's birthday falls two days before our anniversary, hence, execution of surprises is a major problem for me! The first anniversary and his birthday celebrations went off really well and I ended us surprising him with my planning and gifts. With many many occasions to gift him, I ran out of ideas for gifts. So, I decided to decorate the house with balloons and candles, and when he comes back home from office, SURPRISE!
I took the help of a mutual friend in decorating the house. I did not have the time to think about what surprise is in store for me from my husband! Little did I realize that my husband had sought the help from the same friend for his surprise! Poor guy, torn between us could not react. I went to the shop and bought candles, balloons and party poppers.
This friend, K, knew that my husband would be heading home sooner than usual and asked me to hurry up with the decorations, except for the candle part. He told me that he would let me know, once my husband starts from office. Here comes debacle number 1: We forgot to hide his gift and it was left just like that on the TV table!
We finally got a message that my husband has started from office, so we started lighting the candles. I actually took a lot of effort in arranging the candles in the form of a wish! We lit the candles and my husband did not turn up till they completely melted! Yeah, that's debacle number 2! We could not figure out what held him up after he started - it couldn't be the traffic, as it was not peak traffic time.
By the time there was only molten wax all over the floor, my husband reached home. I was so disappointed that I thought I will atleast burst open the party poppers for him and wish him! While he parked his bike, I tried, tried and tried so hard but the party popper never gave up! Then finally BOOM - in the wrong direction at the wrong time! Debacle number 3! He came in and found the gift without any surprise, as I forgot to hide it!
The happy thing is we did not feel sad! We were laughing so hard that we had tears in our eyes! Comic tragedies! All in all, it was a very happy happy anniversary for us, thanks to all my planning debacles!
P.S: My husband's surprises were intact! He had taken half a day off and went shopping for gifts, which I never realised till he gave me! The gifts were a surprise too, I did not expect them at all! Sigh! :) :(
The day ended with a sumptuous dinner at Le Royal Meridien.
