My Thank-You Acceptance Speech
I want to thank God, the Academy, my family….
I am completely humbled and overcome with joy at the same time for being chosen as the Top New Hubber of 2009!! Honestly, you don’t know how much this means to me. I don’t get out much, so Hubpages is a big part of my life. The first thing I do every morning is visit HP, and it’s also the last thing I do every night before going to bed.
How did I get here? I was active on another writing site – Helium. When my long-time friend, Randy Godwin, discovered HP, he shared his experiences with me and encouraged me to join. I signed up, wrote a couple of hubs, and kind of forgot about, in all honesty. I was busy writing for another publisher. When things slowed down a bit with that publisher, I drifted back to HP and got pretty busy writing hubs and getting involved in the forums. Now, I’m addicted to Hubpages!
I love writing here. I can write about practically anything I’m in the mood for. Then I can add photos, videos, and links to my other articles. If I want to include Amazon items, I can easily do so. Then I can arrange everything just the way I want it. What’s not to love?
And the comment section…wow. I thoroughly enjoy reading comments left by readers. I also enjoy leaving comments on hubs written by other hubbers. I’ve actually “met” many fascinating people this way.
Hubpages is filled with many amazing people, resulting in many, many amazing hubs. Sometimes I have to make myself stop reading long enough to write hubs myself! I love reading about growing up in Germany from Hello, Hello or dropping in at BreakfastPop’s to see what’s cooking, or reading the latest sage advice from Fastfreta or Veronica Allen. When I want to read about the South from fellow Southerners, I can always visit Randy Godwin, Lynne Chandler, Mit Kroy, johnnyco12, suziecat7, carolinamuscle, Putz Ballard, Michael Willis,The Rope, hmrjmr1, KCC Big Country, jiberish, or RNMSN.
When I need advice on my lawn, there’s always Jeffrey Neal, who’s helped me in other ways, too. Rmcrayne has given me lots of great tips on dealing with health problems, and if I want to read about “frontier life,” I can visit Ghost 32. If I need inspiration, lyricsingray, Ken Abell, Madam X, Tammy Lochmann, Maven101, tantrum, James A. Watkins, and MyOwnWorld’s beautiful words are always nearby and waiting for me.
When I need hub advice, I can always click on the names Pearldiver, relache Marisa Wright, Dale Mazurek, Sunforged, Frogdropping, Darkside, Mark Knowles, Mike NV, or Nelle Hoxie. How about some good ol’ common sense? No problem! I have Smireles, Ethel Smith, Beth100, cosette, Dolores Monet, Ehern, PeggyW, nemingha, bearclawmedia, the wonderful Zsuzsy Bee, and fellow teacher Dao Hoa for that! All these hubbers have a wealth of information to share!
If I want to take an exotic journey to places I’ll never see, I can drop in on prettydarkhorse, Russell-D, or Dohn121. For a good laugh, I visit Cheeky Chick, Badco, or Citrus000. They’re all “a hoot,” as we say in the South!
In addition to all these great writers and hubs, there are more on the forums. A quick chat with Crazd writer, Lorlie6, Denno, A Texan, stevenix2001, Misha, tony0724, Uninvited Writer, starme 77, BC Boutique, Earnestshub, readytoescape, Marinealways, Emievil, Yoshi97, Daniel Carter, Bovine Currency, sneakorocksolid, Ron Montgomery, Cagsil, Justine76,Wyanjen, sooner than later, and Kirstenblog always puts a smile on my face – or at least gives me food for thought! All of you have enriched my life - even when we respectfully disagree.
I’d also like to mention two other very special people. The first is AEvans for enduring all the hard work involved in such an undertaking. Kudos to you! The second is Ralwus. We joined at about the same time, and he’s been a wonderful friend – someone I’m sure I would enjoy knowing in person.
Again, I was awestruck when I discovered that I had been selected as Hubber of the Year. I still think I’m dreaming! I was tickled pink to be on the Top 200 list. To tell you the truth, I was kind of hoping I would make it into the Top 5 Most Humorous category – I’ve received a lot of comments from folks who enjoyed my (sometimes twisted) sense of humor. But honestly, never did the idea that I had a shot at the top position enter my mind! NEVER!
If I left anyone out, please forgive me – I’m still too excited to think clearly. (I know I'm forgetting someone!) I truly feel that HP is a wonderful family of writers. We support each other, cry on each other’s shoulders, and cheer for each other’s success. Here’s to all our success in 2010! (Holle raises bottle of diet lemonade in salute.)
I love all of you!!
