What New Year's Day Means To Me
First New Day Of 2014
I am grateful for this New Year's Day
A day to get some rest
The last year was so busy
So a day off would suggest
To prepare for a new beginning
Not full of worry but to anticipate
More time to be with my family and
Healthier food upon my plate;
An increase in finances would be nice
Less anxiety over the bills
And to see my Dad and Mom reach
Their next birthdays, only as the
Good Lord wills.
Another story to write, another song to record
And perhaps I will finish reading that book.
And maybe a new hobby in the kitchen,
I will learn more things to cook.
The first day of a new year
Is a time to throw away old
The clothes that are from 1994
And the stack of magazines collecting mold
I can sort out my CD and DVD collections
Perhaps write another review.
Then to answer all those unread emails
And then I will send out a few
To my relatives who live in other countries
I love my international connection
And then I will daydream of lost loves
Who never could return my affection.
All I can say is that this is the day
To give God the total praise
Because He has allowed this earth
To continue
So we can correct our imperfect ways.

A Belief To Have For The New Year
In the Book of Isaiah, chapter 54, verse 17 says,
"No weapon forged to be used against you will succeed; you will refute everyone who tries to accuse you. This is what the Lord will do for his servants - I will vindicate them, says the Lord."
What this scripture is saying is that The Lord God who created each one of us has the ability to protect and prevent diversity from having anything stand in the way of the desire to succeed for those who believe in His Promise. To call on Him is to depend on Him. And that is what this writer is prepared to do this new year and always.
Happy New Year. May you live well and prosper.
