ABC Family's 25 Days Of Christmas Schedule For 2014

Updated on November 22, 2014

ABC Family's 25 Days Of Christmas Schedule For 2014

ABC Family's 25 Days Of Christmas programming has been broadcast annually since 1996, when the network was known as The Family Channel. In recent years, the programming has been expanded into late November, with that portion of the scheduling billed as the Countdown To 25 Days Of Christmas.

The popularity of ABC Family's 25 Days Of Christmas programming block is largely due to its mix of classic Rankin/Bass Christmas specials, original Christmas movies, Pixar films, and other family friendly programming.

Let's take a look at the Christmas television specials, Christmas films, Christmas cartoons, and other programs that have become part of ABC Family's Countdown to 25 Days Of Christmas holiday programming tradition.

The Official ABC Family's 25 Days Of Christmas Schedule For 2014 has been released! Here are links to the schedule for your convenience:

Original Films Featured On ABC Family's 25 Days Of Christmas

Here are the original films that debuted over the years as part of ABC Family's 25 Days Of Christmas programming. There has been at least one original ABC Family film debut since 2003. In 2014, however, the network has instead decided to focus on Christmas themed episodes from a number of their original series.

In 2013, the ABC Family premiere was "Holidaze", which (from the ABC Family press release) follows Mel (Jennie Garth, "Beverly Hills, 90210), a high-powered executive who is sent back to her hometown to convince its residents to allow her company to build a new discount store. The townspeople—led by Mel’s former fiancée Carter (Cameron Mathison, "All My Children")—are vehemently opposed to it. Desperate to get out of town and back to her “real” life, Mel takes a spill and wakes up in an alternate universe where she never left home and is married to Carter. Once determined to leave her small town life behind, Melody must make sense of her new life and decide if you truly can go home again.

For 2012, ABC Family debuted “The Mistle-Tones,” a *musical* that (from ABC Family press release) follows Holly (Tia Mowry), a young woman who decides to create her own Christmas singing group when she is turned down for a spot in legendary group The Snow Belles by the mean spirited Marci (Tori Spelling).

The new films that debuted in 2011 were:

  • Desperately Seeking Santa - (from ABC Family press release) Laura Vandervoort ("V,") plays a young marketing executive who launches a sexy Santa contest promotion, only to find herself falling for the winner.
  • - NOTE: This is not on their Press Release as part of the ABC Family 25 Days Of Christmas schedule for 2011. It is airing as part of ABC Family's Countdown To 25 Days Of Christmas schedule on Sunday, November 27, 2011 (8:00 - 10:00 PM ET/PT).
  • 12 Dates of Christmas - (from ABC Family press release) Amy Smart ("Just Friends," "The Butterfly Effect") stars as a woman who relives her first date of Christmas Eve over and over and over again.
  • NOTE: This is scheduled to debut on ABC Family's 25 Days Of Christmas schedule on Sunday, December 11, 2011 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT).

While I am personally not as much of a fan of ABC Family's original films, I do have a soft spot for one solely for its title - "Holiday In Handcuffs". Sounds more like a Lifetime movie of the week than a romantic comedy.
