Thrifty Gift Challenge
Be Thrifty and Take the Challenge!
You will be surprised at the treasures you may discover. And there is a certain "thrill of the hunt," for that deal of the day. Recycling and upcycling are easier on the planet, and the money spent helps charities, churches, and other benevolent organizations.
Many families and groups participate with "secret Santa" activities. This is when everyone puts their names in a hat (or box or bowl) and then draws one name. Everyone agrees on how much to spend, perhaps $20 for adults and $5 for kids, and then the hunt begins.
I spent many hours learning the fine art of thrifting from my mother; it's an activity that I enjoy. The enjoyment isn't as much about the shopping, rather it is being on the lookout for something someone I care about would love.
It is easy to pop into a store and purchase a quick gift for $20. To invest a little bit more time you may just end up finding something wonderful, and at the same time cross a few more names off of your gift list!

Share your thrifting tips and treasures!
Are you an experienced thrifter? One thing that I have taken away from my thrifty shopping habits is that when I am browsing my favorite shops there are plenty of kindred shoppers who are always open to share tips and exchange addresses of further shops and opportunities. I have made many friends and exchanged lovely stories of great finds. When reward comes through treasure hunting "bragging rights" are always enjoyable whether you are sharing a personal experience or listening to that of other thrifty shoppers.
